MOUNTAIN FIRE: Blaze grows, Pine Cove gets evacuation warning
Source: Riverside Press-Enterprise
The 42-square-mile Mountain Fire near Idyllwild kept firefighters and residents on edge Friday, July 19, as it turned towards the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and caused officials to issue an evacuation warning for nearby Pine Cove.
Meanwhile, the weather forecast for Saturday, July 20, included showers and afternoon thunderstorms.
Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for Riverside County late Friday evening. The declaration will suspend some red tape connected with repairs to any damaged infrastructure. The fire has cost an estimated $10.9 million.
With a 30 percent chance of rain for Saturday, overnight plans included crews working on fire breaks in the rugged terrain and water-dropping helicopters making runs on the blaze in the dark, said U.S. Forest Service spokesman Bob Poole.

(90,841 posts)We lost one of our Santa Barbara County firefighters when those 19 Hotshots died in Arizona -- I'm sure more of our people are out in San Bernardino County on mutual aid now.

(2,012 posts)thinking of these CA folks. Now when it rains we have awful mud slides and flooding in the burned areas.
