Palace: Prince William's wife Kate in labor
Source: AP via HuffPo
LONDON Palace officials say Prince William's wife, Kate, has been admitted to the hospital in the early stages of labor.
Royal officials said that Kate travelled by car to St. Mary's Hospital in central London. Kate also known as the Duchess of Cambridge is expected to give birth in the private Lindo Wing of the hospital, where Princess Diana gave birth to William and his younger brother, Prince Harry.
The baby will be third in line for the British throne behind Prince Charles and William and is anticipated eventually to become king or queen.
The medical team will be led by royal gynecologist Dr. Marcus Setchell.

(205,405 posts)The Duchess of Cambridge, 31, was admitted into a London hospital early Monday in the early stages of labor, a palace official confirmed.
With her husband, Prince William, at her side, Duchess Kate was taken to a private wing of St. Marys hospital, the same London facility where William and his brother, Prince Harry, were born.
The duchess traveled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St Marys Hospital with the Duke of Cambridge, according to a statement released by royal officials.

(14,738 posts)...with how little there was on my Twitterfeed about the Royal sprog being dropped. Quite a contrast from the tiresome wall to wall UK media coverage.
Mostly my twitterfeed has been the usual John Terry joke, suggestions that the Royal sprog should be called Joffrey from Game Of Thrones fans. (I'm not nearly enough of a Republican to be that unkind) and suggestions for novelty beer names for real ale breweries who might wish to cash in on any deman for memorabilia.

(36,974 posts)World hopes Kate and William will have a girl
July 18, 2013
-snip-

Perusing the web, I've been struck by how many comments indicate a popular preference for a girl. To quote one particularly enthusiastic respondent to a recent article on the royal birth, "I'm personally wishing it to be a girl for the good of the entire human race and the sustainability of the planet."
Why the shift in sentiment?
In part, the enthusiasm for royal daughters can be attributed to the passage of the Succession to the Crown Act, which became law in late April 2013. The act, greenlighted to save the British government from the embarrassment of denying the throne to William and Kate's first-born -- should that first-born be a girl -- erases the male preference in royal succession.
The change in law means that the new royal baby, regardless of its sex, will be third in line to the throne. Thus, the refreshing banality of Kate's recent statement that, "I'd like to have a boy -- and William would like a girl!" From a constitutional perspective, the sex of the child no longer makes a difference.
There's another reason for the eagerness, at least in some quarters, for a female heir. The very uncontroversial nature of the passage of the Succession to the Crown Act reflects a particular historical reality in Britain. Male preference aside, women have worn the crown there for most of the past two centuries.

It could be 10 days before the baby's name is announced. British bookmakers favor the names Alexandra, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Victoria, Grace, James and George. The field is open for both boys' and girls' names because royal sources said the parents did not want to know their child's sex.
When the time comes, the title will be His or Her Royal Highness Prince or Princess (the baby's name) of Cambridge, St. James's Palace said this month.
The duchess' mother, Carole Middleton, was expected to be on hand at the hospital.
But Home Secretary Theresa May said she won't be there. Centuries ago, she explained, "the home secretary had to be there to evidence that it was genuinely a royal birth and that a baby hadn't been smuggled in." But she said that requirement is defunct.
Protocol dictates that the first to know about the arrival of the baby will be Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Minister David Cameron and the governors general of each of the commonwealth nations -- along with the rest of the royal and Middleton families.

(6,384 posts)The Queen has the Moon in Leo, as does Prince Philip; Charles has Leo Rising, and the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret were Leo, as is Princess Anne.
I rather expected it would be Cancer, like Diana and William - it might be, if it's a quick birth; otherwise, Sun is in Leo by 5.00 pm.
Edit to add: Have done a bit more checking, and this baby could have Moon in Capricorn, which would help it relate well to Katherine. The Moon goes into Aquarius just after 8.30 pm, and that would give her the same Moon as Diana. Fascinating how family dynamics play out.

I was actually surprised that it took a whole five hours and 34 posts for one to fly in.
By the way, I've been hoping for a girl. I think because it will be a nice change from royal sons.
