Dubai rape case Norwegian woman 'free to go'

A Norwegian woman at the centre of a Dubai rape case dispute has been pardoned and is free to leave Dubai, she has said.

Interior designer Marte Deborah Dalelv was on a business trip in Dubai when she says she was raped in March.

She reported the attack to the police, but found herself charged with having extramarital sex, drinking alcohol, and perjury.

The case has angered rights groups and the authorities in Norway.

they'd probably change the law in a hurry. Why celebs go there all the time I have no idea. Think Salma Hayek was there awhile back. Going to Dubai is like a PR fuckup. Worse than Jlo singing to a dictator that really wasn't her job to find out. It should be but musicians are rarely told anything. Bit different from the MPAA. RIAA doesn't care what happens to it's artists..

with his wife once and snuck a few nude photo shoots there. Frapping risky but possibly a bit more legal since they are married. (he's from Norway) Luba is from the Ukraine

actually I think Paris Hilton being scantly clad actually did cause an incident because she was photographed in a bikini

refuse to do business with countries like the UAE until they make progress in thrir culture. If a woman can't report a rape without facing jail time, there's a serious problem with their society.

We send people by the thousand to die so someone can profit from it, don't give flying rat's ass about their rights.

People care more about human rights than oil and money.
And questions like that are no longer necessary.

While presently the US is actually sending in more refined products to the UAE then we are getting in crude, the UAE has the sixth largest oil and natural gas reserves in the world. Thus we are as dependent on them, given how much oil goes to our other trading partners, as they on us.

In simple terms, cut off trade, strengthens China, which is something the US does not want.

Her alleged attacker, she said, received a 13-month sentence for extramarital sex and alcohol consumption.
The man she accused of raping her - a colleague - has also been pardoned, a Norwegian official has said.
