GOP chairman: I don’t really care for the word tolerance

Source: Raw Story

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus assured social conservatives on Monday that the GOP was not going to embrace “tolerance” as part of its rebranding efforts.

“I don’t know if I’ve used the word ‘tolerance,’ I don’t really care for that word myself,” he told the Christian Broadcasting Network. “I don’t have a problem with it, I just think it has another meaning politically that can go the other direction.”

Priebus said Republicans would continue to oppose same-sex marriage and seek to ban abortion in the United States. He described both as “foundational issues,” but said Republicans needed to adopted a more tolerant tone.

“If you’re looking at the evidence, what you will see is a party that embraces life, a party that embraces marriage and a chairman that understands that there’s only one sovereign God and that we ultimately aren’t dependent on what happens in politics,” Priebus explained. “What ultimately matters in our lives is that we’re salt and light in the world and that we’re honoring God in the things that we do every day. I get that. I think our party gets that and there’s never been a movement away from that.”

“If you’re looking at the evidence, what you will see is a party that embraces life {but only before birth and says women are tools to be used by rapists to create unwanted babies}, a party that embraces marriage {but not for anyone that we don't approve of} and a chairman that understands that there’s only one sovereign God {which means that all Muslims and every other non-christian religious believer is going to burn in hell} and that we ultimately aren’t dependent on what happens in politics {which is code for the exact opposite}."

Making the Republican party more of the home of the old, white, disgruntled Jeebus worshippers has been working so well too!
We need a legitimate opposition party though to keep the feet of sane politicians to the fire...the way it is now, they really do have me at "what? are you going to actually vote for HIM?!?!?" and simply being the lesser of two evils is a winning Democratic strategy in many places...

Wow, listen to this asshole.

Actually, Priebus, people ARE dependent on politics, unfortunately, and you're one of the ones in politics who is fucking things up for them.

It's like he's absolving himself of any accountability in his job.

“I don’t know if I’ve used the word ‘tolerance,’ I don’t really care for that word myself,” he told the Christian Broadcasting Network.

A Christian who doesn't care for the word "tolerance" is like a teacher who doesn't care for the word "knowledge". Or an architect who doesn't care for the word "building".

Christianity is BASED on tolerance. So this clown says to the CHRISTIAN Broadcasting Network that he's not really sold on the idea. Nice outreach, Rancid.

I prefer ACCEPTANCE. Tolerance implies that you still hate something but are willing to grudgingly go along with it.

Of course, that's not what RNC-PR-BS was talking about.

said the Greek Orthodox Reinhold Reince Priebus to the Southern Baptist Christian Broadcasting Network host,
while a Republican Mormon reading the interview asked his Republican Jewish friend if the Republican Party is perhaps too beholden to these "we know what God wants" social conservatives. His friend answered that his wife, an ex-Republican atheist, certainly thinks so.
