* In call with Republicans, speaker recalls backlash from 1990s shutdown

* Republicans deeply divided on strategy to stop or weaken health law

* House Republican aide emphasizes no final decision made on strategy

WASHINGTON, Aug 22 (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner warned rank-and-file Republicans in a conference call on Thursday against using the threat of a government shutdown to stop the implementation of Obamacare, according to people on the call.

On the call, Boehner reminded Republicans of the political backlash their party suffered when the government shut down in 1995-1996, according to one person on the call.

Another participant in the call, Oklahoma Representative Tom Cole, said the speaker's main message was that he and other leaders were still committed to killing President Barack Obama's signature health care law but that they did not want a government shutdown.

A House Republican aide, however, emphasized that no final decision has been made on whether to pursue a strategy advocated by some in the party of denying funds for Obamacare.

as they have been hired to do. Every time they voted to repeal Obama care and a bill was introduced to remove their health care, the same number of voters to repeal also voted to keep their medical insurance. If Obama care is so bad then their health insurance is bad but they do not see this part. They know there are portions of ObamaCare which has started and the folks who are enjoying those benefits and there would be repercussions the party probably does not want to deal with.

The radicals have taken over that party. Going against Boehner is considered a badge of honor in Teahadist circles.

Boehner is full of crap. He has turned the House of Representatives into political theater with those 40 "Repeal Obamacare" votes that he knows will never pass the Senate! Where are his SOLUTIONS about jobs, health care, etc.? He's got none, and this advice by him against a shutdown is a big cop out from his failures as speaker. He knows the republicans will get more tomatoes thrown at them with a shutdown. People haven't forgotten 1995!

Let the Repubs shut everything down, then..as a effort to assist in the country paying its debts (14th Amendment), have ALL perks suspended from congress. No free healthcare, no free DC parking, no free dinners, drug dealings, porn, interns, everything, and they we'll see how long the govt in shut down.......

For years, you have done nothing about the unbelievably childish behavior of the Congress; if anything, you encouraged it. So you own this, lock, stock, and barrel.
