Obama gets 'detailed review' of Syria options, speaks with UK's Cameron

Source: Reuters - Sat, 24 Aug 2013 09:26 PM

WASHINGTON, Aug 24 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama received a "detailed review of a range of potential options" from his top advisers on Saturday on how the United States and its allies could respond to an alleged chemical weapons attack by the Syrian government, the White House said.

Obama also spoke with British Prime Minister David Cameron about Syria and agreed to consult about "potential responses by the international community," the White House said.

The White House did not provide details about what options were under consideration, and gave no indication about Obama's timeline for making a decision on the issue. (Reporting by Jeff Mason and Roberta Rampton; Editing by Peter Cooney)

Or isn't that necessary anymore?

Even LBJ got a Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and Bush got an Iraq War Resolution. As phony as they both were at least they went through the motions.

As you observed, even GWB received the OK from Congress for both Afghanistan and Iraq.

But he's OUR president, so we must support him. /sarc.

The war powers act does not preclude LIMITED actions without Congress. Still, it would be a very good idea for Obama to explain to the nation - not just Congress - what he is doing.

WASHINGTON | Sat Aug 24, 2013 6:55pm EDT

(Reuters) - British Prime Minister David Cameron and U.S. President Barack Obama agreed on Saturday on the need to deter the use of chemical weapons, and were concerned about "increasing signs" that Syria attacked civilians, a spokesperson for Cameron said.

"They are both gravely concerned by the attack that took place in Damascus on Wednesday and the increasing signs that this was a significant chemical weapons attack carried out by the Syrian regime against its own people," the spokesperson said.

"They reiterated that significant use of chemical weapons would merit a serious response from the international community and both have tasked officials to examine all the options," the spokesperson said.

will never be released as evidence for their actions because they would be laughable as to what they are using for justification.

Perhaps a computer animated drawing of scary industrial equipment.

It will be another Obama, "trust me" episode.
