Wal-Mart labor protests - 15 cities, arrests in NYC
Source: CBS Moneywatch
(MoneyWatch) A coalition of union, religious and civil groups on Thursday launched protests at Wal-Mart (WMT) stores in 15 U.S. cities, the largest such demonstrations since last fall, organizers said. Three protesters were arrested in New York City as they tried to deliver a petition to a member of Wal-Mart's board.
The New York Police Department said the three were booked on trespassing and disorderly conduct charges, the Associated Press reported.
The demonstrations were part of a larger set of protests, strikes and other labor actions launched in conjunction with unions seeking to organize low-paid workers. They come as many large retailers continue to curb compensation growth, as well as shift full-timer workers to part-time status to avoid having to pay health and retirement benefits.

They have been talking about it on the "one" progressive radio station" in Los Angeles only to be overshadowed by a sports program.t
Majority of the Walmart employees don't make cost of living wages and since they work 39 hours or less they are handed Medi-Cal (Medicaid) applications. So tax payers we are covering their health care as well as paying Walmart subsidies.

(1,712 posts)station in LA would be? Asking only because I might want to take a listen, depending on whether or not the signal makes it down to SD.

(32,034 posts)Could be picked up on a car radio in SD but will have lots of interference from the SD 1170 station, as 1150 has a 50 kW day signal that goes down to about 40 kW night.

(348 posts)"From little things Big things grow". There is a fantastic australian song by this title about some aboriginal stockmen( cowboys) who went on strike against a large landholder called Villies who had them on starvation wages. If anyone out there can look it up and do a link I'd be much appreciated, I'm still a bit of a Luddite !!!! you won't regret it!!! Also it's a great story about oppressed people standing up to the man. Inspirational!!!!
