Procter & Gamble to cut 5,700 jobs in restructuring

Posted: 2:29 PM

By: Associated Press

NEW YORK - Consumer products maker Procter & Gamble Inc. plans to cut 5,700 jobs globally by the end of the fiscal year ending in June 2013 as part of a cost-cutting plan.

That amounts to about 10 percent of the company's non-manufacturing work force.

Procter & Gamble CEO Robert McDonald announced the moves at the Consumer Analyst Group of New York conference in Boca Raton, Fla. The presentation was webcast.

Procter & Gamble says it plans to save $10 billion by the end of the fiscal year ending in June 2016.

Now if the government could do the same, it would improve bottom line of all tax payers.

3. restructurings like this seem to end in contracting out work

that still needs to be done to people and companies that don't have loyalty to the company. In the end it often seems that contracting things out ends up costing more in total, but it comes out of different pockets.

My wife works at P&G and they have been trying to downsize since the company bought Gillette about 5 years ago. They have finally absorbed Gillette into P&G and now they have too many people. The company did not meet their goal set earlier for voluntary seperations. It looks like they are going to force people out.

The stock price has stagnated over the past 4 years so it is time to trim the payroll to help the bottom line. The sad thing is 5,700 families will be affected by this. It is also rumored the current CEO, Bob McDonald, will probably "retire" soon.

I work for this organization. It is somewhat scary to think that this is the direction. It really is about the share holder. They DO NOT care about you or your family...they are a business...business is about dollars....but the human side...forget it! They will happily leave emotional carnage and long term pain if it means a better bottom line. When a business raves on about loyalty..forget it! It is a one way street. They say that they touch lives and improve life....by mid 2013 it will be touching your bank account...ruining life....

11. Yes, if you get a paycheck at the end of the week, you're even. Don't expect more.

I figured this out years ago when my company was doing some unconscionable things to employees and I figured I could be next.

I was not in a position to quit, recession hit hard in my town, no jobs available and my kids were in college.

Had to suck it up and struggled with how to survive emotionally.

Finally realized that it was all about their numbers and I had to accept that. So, I survived by just working my 40 hours+, getting my paycheck and acknowledging that we were "even" at that point in time.

It's not the way I wanted to work, but I made it do.
