Oregon's minimum wage up 15 cents to $9.10 in 2014

Source: The Oregonian

Oregon's hourly minimum wage will climb to $9.10 in 2014, up 15 cents from today's base.

The annual change, tied to inflation, was announced this morning by the state. Oregon's minimum wage remains the second-highest in the nation, behind Washington.

The Northwest states are the first to require employers pay more than $9 hourly. The federal minimum wage remains $7.25.

Nearly 98,000 Oregon jobs paid $8.95 an hour or less this year -- meaning workers holding those jobs will see bigger paychecks starting Jan. 1.

Imagine being a minimum wage worker and having to pay 7-8% mark-up on most purchases! In effect, Oregon's minimum wage is really a lot higher since there is no sales tax and minimum wage workers don't pay a lot of income taxes. Property is tax, but that does not impact low-wage workers much.

Minimum wage up, no sales tax, beaches open to the public, we don't pump our own gas, the scenery's fantastic statewide and yep, it's all affordable. I love my Oregon--She flies with Her Own Wings!
