Data, credit card numbers for 2.9 million Adobe users stolen
Source: LA Times
Adobe announced Thursday that it was the victim of a hack and that personal data for 2.9 million users were stolen.
The software company, known for Photoshop and other programs, said cyber attackers were able to access user information, including account IDs, encrypted passwords as well as credit and debit card numbers. The hackers were able to erase data of some Adobe users.
The hackers also illegally accessed source codes for numerous Adobe products. That's like stealing the secret formula for Coca-Cola.
The company did not specify which users of its various software programs were hit.

Adobe .... meh

(15,882 posts)at the level of performance that it would take to safeguard what is going on. They lay off hundreds, and think things are just going to roll along like they always have. Meh.
Securing a computer, and its associated network is really not much different whether it is local or distant, because both are connected to the same pipes. The thing that makes the difference is how much those responsible can put into learning and knowing what needs to be done, and how much the company understands the need to do what they ask.
Idiotic business, this having 1 person being responsible for administering server, users, software application, security, development, and probably cleaning the restroom, (ads for which you can see multiples of every day) all for half or less than they used to make for the same work, and expecting anything other than this. And it doesn't seem the orgs get smarter as they get bigger.

(4,631 posts)And just continued to use the last fat client version of the software, they would concede it was a losing proposition. I can't imagine there were any critical features in the cloud version that users could not live without. I could be wrong.

(3,366 posts)... if everyone just stopped at the last version and refused to rent the programs. How many more bells & whistles do we need? $30/month is insane... and how much will it be next year? If you stop paying, you won't be able to even open any files you had created.

(20,878 posts)I've done the same as of a few months ago. VISA would not back me up when I received a damaged package via UPS. It was sent back to the vendor damaged and the charge of $200+ was on my VISA card and they would not take it off until I filled out a form and scanned said form in, converted said image to a .jpeg image and emailed it to them with my sworn statement.
I had to wait for six weeks for them to "remove" this charge and after that, I use VISA card for almost nothing.
My ISP requires a VISA or MasterCard to pay them with. I have this on auto-bill but nothing else.
All other "recurring" charges are now being sent to my COSTCO American Express card and you've got that right, American Express goes after frauds, etc. and NO you don't have to fill out a stack of forms to have a charge removed that should be taken off ASAP!!
to American Express!!
& recommend!!

(20,878 posts)That is what I have too. When I first got it, 5000 points bought you a $50 VISA card to use. Now that same $50 VISA card cost 5900 points.
Every month, that same $50 VISA card seems to creep up and up.
Soon it will be 6000 points to get a $50.00 VISA rewards card.
Their "rewards" are costing more and what you get is less.
So what else is new?
Best thing to do is not use the stupid card and ditch it if you can manage to do that.

6% back from supermarkets, 3% from gas stations, 3% from major department stores, 1% everywhere else.
I pay it off every month and have gotten back several hundred dollars this year.
