Lee Terry (R-NE) says he 'cannot handle' giving up own paycheck during shutdown

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joseph Morton

Updated, 6:10 p.m. with comments from Terry's office.

WASHINGTON — Many government workers not being paid right now are worried about how to make ends meet if the shutdown drags on.

But one category of federal employees enjoys guaranteed pay: members of Congress.

Those 535 members of the House and Senate have their salaries enshrined in the Constitution.

That makes it “mandatory spending.” In other words, no mere shutdown is going to stop their checks.

FULL story at link.

He left a voicemail inviting me to one of his townhall meetings. I erased it as soon as I heard his sniveling voice.

He doesn't seem like the type of man who can handle a little discomfort, despite causing pain for thousands of people.

"He doesn't seem like the type of man who can handle a little discomfort, despite causing pain for thousands of people."

it would be more accurate to say

"He doesn't seem like the type of man who can handle a little discomfort, despite willingly causing pain for thousands of people."

The President/VP also are being paid as mandatory spending.

In summary,

Uniformed military, POTUS/VP, the 532 Members of Congress (3 vacancies in the House) and Article III Judges/Justices will be paid.

Other federal employees may be directed to work, and will be paid, but pay is delayed until the shutdown ends.

Pay outcome for those of us furloughed to be determined by Saturday's House vote.

They expect to be paid their high salary while the poor working stiffs go without. And the ones who are donating their salaries are so rich they won't miss their $8000 a month paycheck.

Maybe if they experienced some of the hardships people face thay won;t be so quick to want to cut programs such as SNAP.
