John McCain Blames Tea Party For Government Shutdown
Source: Huffington Post
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) blamed tea party Republicans for the government shutdown during a CNN interview on Wednesday, saying Congress never had a shot at defunding Obamacare.
We started this on a fools errand, convincing so many millions of Americans and our supporters that we could defund Obamacare," McCain said.
While McCain didn't name names, he faulted members of Congress -- "tea partiers specifically" -- for wrongly telling "millions of Americans" that Obamacare can be defunded.
That "obviously wouldnt happen until we had 67 Republican senators to override a presidential veto," McCain said.

This is what happens when the GOP constituency starts believing the Lutz talking points about the ACA being an existential threat as reality.

Remember how he reacted to guy whose operatives went to work in the 2000 S.C primary to smear his adopted daughter as his secret black love child?
or how his 2000 stand that Jerry Falwell was an 'agent of intolerance" eventually played out, once 2004 rolled around?:
His supposed Maverickness never delivers.

So if it's a fool's errand, then McCain is the fool.

As it is, he comes off as some sort of bitter pathological contrarian.
What a surreal presidency it would have been if McCain had won in '08! The military would be sent to invade a different country each week for ever-more incomprehensible geopolitical reasons, fresh bursts of Sarah Palin's inane gibberish would lead the news each night, and every now and then the White House would out-of-the-blue adopt some random liberal posture like medical marijuana.

We may not like these folks, but they are mainstream Republicans and they are used to working with Democrats to get things done.
On the other hand, the Tea Party bunch is akin to religious fanatics. They see working with the opposition and compromising as a betrayal of their beliefs. Boehner can't control them and the other Republicans can't make headway with them either. They are also afraid to be primaried by these zealots (see McConnell).
No one will be able to govern effectively while the T.P. bunch is in Congress.
