White House: No budget talks until government reopens

Source: The Hill

The White House said Thursday it was “willing to look at any proposal” to lift the debt ceiling but insisted President Obama would not engage in budget negotiations until the government reopens.

House Republicans are discussing a six-week extension of the debt ceiling to buy time for negotiating a broader budget deal. But it’s unclear whether the legislation would reopen the government, and some Republican lawmakers have urged leadership to include some legislative priorities tied to the short-term extension.

A White House official reiterated Thursday that the president would only be willing to bargain on a broader budget package once the government shutdown ends.

and don't back down. Make Boehner capitulate. The only thing acceptable at this point is the GOP's unconditional surrender.

The white House has already nixed the idea of a temporary extension of the debt ceiling without first reopening the government. That means the GOP will under increased pressure!

The House can propose a rise of the debt limit, with nothing whatsoever attached, it can go through, and that stops the worldwide recession for 6 week; and then they have to face up to how to govern, by passing a budget, which they have not tried to do for some time, and grow up enough to pass a longer term increase. Baby steps, for babies.

The House passes its budget, the Senate passes its budget, they appoint a conference committee to resolve the differences, and pass it into law. And then the President signs it.
