Ted Cruz confronts President Obama at White House
Source: Politico
Sen. Ted Cruz confronted President Barack Obama over his health care law during a meeting at the White House Friday attended by dozens of GOP senators.
Cruz told Obama that any deal to reopen the government must also provide relief for those negatively affected by Obamacare. In a long gaggle with reporters, Cruz did not use the word defund to describe his aspirations for changes to the health care law, but said he wants substantial changes.
I told the president exactly the same thing I have told you here today: That we need to work together and fund the government and at the same time provide substantial relief to the millions of people who are hurting because of Obamacare, who are losing their jobs, being forced into part-time work and losing their health insurance, Cruz said. If the outcome doesnt impact people who are struggling, who are hurting because of Obamacare, then I dont think it would be a good outcome.
Asked to give a breakdown of the exchange between Cruz and Obama, White House press secretary Jay Carney simply responded: No.

(16,992 posts)You'll find the same phrase, precisely or a variant, in transcripts, videos, and letters. Possibly Frank Luntz or another pollster selected and honed a statement (the oft-repeated "government takeover of health care" claim about the ACA is reportedly also Luntz's handiwork) that they all use. Listen to enough sound bites, media availabilities, and speeches and you'll be able to mouth the words right along with them.
The House GOP members' August letter calling for the defunding of the Affordable Care Act contained a variant of the talking point.
http://meadows.house.gov/uploads/Meadows_DefundLetter.pdf
Of course they always claim this is all about jobs, but since they started trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act from the first day of the Republican control of Congress in 2011, when the ACA wasn't even a year old and definitely hadn't gone into effect in full, this is all just for show, and what isn't for show is for spite.

Senator Pat Geary: You can have the license. The price is $250,000... plus a monthly payment of 5% of the gross... of all four hotels... Mr. Corleone
Michael Corleone: Now, the price of the license is less than $20,000. Is that correct?
Senator Pat Geary: Yes.
Michael Corleone: So why would I ever consider paying more than that?
Senator Pat Geary: Because I intend to squeeze you.
Senator Pat Geary: I want your answer and the money by noon tomorrow. And one more thing. Don't you contact me again, ever. From now on, you deal with Turnbull.
Michael Corleone: Senator? You can have my answer now, if you like. My final offer is this: nothing. Not even the fee for the gaming license, which I would appreciate if you would put up personally.

Want to help people Teddy Boy then why are you not pushing for single payer?
The other day an analysis was linked here that showed that if the USA had implemented the same HC System that France has, the most generous in the world BTW, we could have saved so much money we could eliminate individual federal taxes.
If the GOP wants to get rid of individual taxes they should be pimping single payer big time.
Why does the GOP want to keep individual taxes in America?
