Jocelyn Benson, dean of the law school at Wayne State University and the Democratic Partys nominee for Michigan Secretary of State in 2010, is eyeing a congressional race in metro Detroit next year.
Benson, 35, is apparently considering a run as a Democrat in Michigans 11th Congressional District, currently held by U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio, R-Milford, who was elected to his first term last year.
A Democratic source told the Free Press that Benson is looking at entering the race after she met Wednesday with various party bigwigs in Washington, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer and addressed a House Democratic caucus meeting.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Emilys List a group that helps elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates also are believed to be willing to offer support, according to the source who spoke on condition of anonymity because the meetings had not been made widely public. . .

Bentovolio is a Teahadist fool (he does raise reindeer, however). He's a right-wing nutjob of the first order. Even the business community is giving hundreds of thousands to a GOP primary opponent (business-first type).
This is the tip of the iceberg, which is why I post this as nationally significant. The Tea Party is going to get pushback big time now, with GOP-business types (not a fan, but . . . ) and quality Dem candidates like this one taking them on.
Much more of this to come.
