Business groups stand by Boehner, plot against tea party

Source: NY Times

Now that the shutdown and debt-ceiling fight have exposed a rift in the Republican Party, lines are being drawn in the battle for control: On one side, there is Boehner and his circle of powerful business allies. On the other, tea party lawmakers and activist groups such as Heritage Action and the Club for Growth.

“I don’t know of anybody in the business community who takes the side of the Taliban minority,” said Dirk Van Dongen, longtime chief lobbyist for the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors, who has known Boehner since the lawmaker’s first election.

In the hallways of the country’s leading trade associations, there is talk about taking on tea party Republicans in at least three states.

The first is Michigan, where Rep. Justin Amash, who had been challenging Boehner during the debt-ceiling fight, is facing a possible challenge from a business-backed candidate. Business lobbyists also talk about funding a challenge to another tea-party-backed Republican incumbent, Rep. Kerry Bentivolio.

The interesting thing is that we get to see whether the business community sits by while the Ted Cruz/Mike Lee/Meadows types start issuing ultimatums that everyone must accept or they force a default. My take is that threat of default gets higher as we get closer to the election, since Republicans are so afraid of being attacked from the right by Koch funded Tea Party groups.

Anyway. there is exactly ZERO chance that a default happens. The House leadership and McConnell are all corporate Republicans. The problem is another shutdown. They do not care about people not working. Why do you think this circus ended yesterday and not on October 1rst, when it actually started people. You cannot hurt financial institutions.

But if they can create disruption in these states and either get us less crazy Republicans or even better Democrats elected, it will be useful.

force them to split into their own individual party...

as a liberal IM even kinda sick of them pretending to be a part of the GOP..

don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no love for the 'establishment' GOP members.. but jesus, at least they are some what civil and are capable of intelligent dialogue and discussion.
these tea party folks are just emotions and money. nothing else.
I really feel bad most of the time for folks who have gotten caught up in it.. cause they are being exploited and don't realize it.

back in the 1980s over social issues like Roe v Wade (moral majority and all that) and now the chickens have come home to roost. Something about people voting against their own interests based solely on issues of controlling other people comes to mind here.

May they die a death of 1,000 cuts. Only 30 years of misery too late...
