40 arrested, police vehicles burned as RCMP clash with N.B. shale gas protesters

Source: Global New Brunswick (Canada)

The push to stop shale gas exploration in NB erupted into violence after police moved into dismantle a blockade Ross Lord reports.

REXTON, N.B. – RCMP officers fired rubber bullets and used tear gas to break up an anti-shale gas protest in eastern New Brunswick on Thursday.

Police arrested a number of protesters, including a Mi’kmaq First Nation chief, at the scene.
Demonstrators, who have blocked Route 134 outside Rexton for a number of weeks, retaliated by setting six vehicles, including police cars, on fire. About 100 protesters were at the scene of the blockade Thursday morning when RCMP officers acting on a court injunction moved in to dismantle the encampment blocking seismic testing equipment owned by SWN Resources.

SWN Resources, has been conducting exploration for shale gas in various parts of New Brunswick since 2010. The company has been the subject of repeated protests and even suspended testing at one point due to opposition to its operations.

A little more than 8 hours ago, police and contracted snipers descended upon the Elsipogtog fracking blockade in Canada. A few protesters lobbed molotovs at empty police vehicles, to signify they weren't planning on leaving. The situation is growing more and more tense by the hour.

#Elsipogtog #IdleNoMore #EndFracking

see video, actually it is the audio that is scary.

There are armed men, lying on their stomachs with rifles aimed at the tar sands/fracking protesters. In Canada, ay! Oh Canada!

Suzane Patles, an Ilnu woman and member of the Mi’kmaq Warrior Society, has called for physical support at the blockade, solidarity actions across Turtle Island on Oct. 18th and a flooding of Kanadian official representatives’ phone and mail lines. The October 18th Day of Action is a response in protest to the court injunction that SWN is now enforcing against the encampment.

Men, with rifles, dressed like GI JOE with rifles aimed at peaceful protesters.

Canadian Soldiers And Police Trained By Blackwater Mercenaries Contracted by Harper since 2006. Oh, good grief.

Apparently Corporate Canada also owns the police and.... are those soldiers or police?

October 17, 2013, 7:30 AM – about 700 Canadian police raided the Elsipogtog anti-fracking blockade in New Brunswick. Police have descended on a blockade encampment of members of the Mi’kmaq First Nation, who have been holding a weeks-long blockade to prevent the Texas-based company Southwestern Energy (SWN) from conducting fracking exploration in their lands.
Several people have been hurt and all of the Mi’kmaq Warrior Society has been arrested. Over 200 supporters broke police lines to join the blockade. Reports of rubber bullets fired, reckless use of pepper spray, brutality, all at the behest of SWN.

Help flood the phone lines and emails of SWN to denounce their support for this violence!

4. Video of the history of the Blockade and TX's Southwestern Energy

http://www.submedia.tv/stimulator/2013/10/16/mikmaq_blockade/

For over two weeks now, a coalition of people including local Mi’kmaq residents, and anglophone and Acadian settlers, have blockaded the road leading to an equipment compound leased to South Western Energy or SWN.

SWN is a Texas based energy company, that has been attempting to conduct natural gas exploration in the area’s shale formations. It is believed that if significant deposits of gas are found, SWN would then employ the controversial extraction method of hydraulic fracturing or fracking. But since this past summer, protests, direct actions and sabotage have thwarted their work, and have turned public opinion on the side of the protesters.

Throughout the summer, police arrested dozens of people conducting non-violent civil disobedience. But since the arrival of members of the Mi’kmaq warrior society, the police have not been as keen to come near protesters.
The blockade is preventing SWN from operating thumper trucks, massive vehicles that gather seismic data to determine the location of natural gas.

During my short stay here I’ve witnessed the co-operation between natives and settlers, a partnership that has kept this blockade fully stocked and operational. Food, wood, hot coffee, tents and other supplies keep streaming all the while SWN berates the police in the media for not arresting the protesters.

In two days time, several people named in a court injuction are due to appear before a judge. In the meantime supporters keep arriving, but the warriors have also issued a callout for further support.

It's going to be the First Nations, Natives -

Us "white men" got our heads up our asses.

If we (and/or the USA) were ruled by First Nation people - the raping of the land would STOP!

Global war, at least that fomented from the USA would grind to a halt.

"Defense" departments would be just that - to defend us from attacks, not "perceived threats",

bombing the shit out of people that MIGHT attack us from afar -

Us white men got so insane it's illegal for people to grow food on their properties, have animals raised for food/milk/wool etc., -

because it offends their neighbors.

BUT - us white man think it's ok to tear up the land (think oil sands) - destroy the vegetation, pollute the waters, kill off the wildlife, AND future generations - all for the almighty $$.

FUCK YOU HARPER!, and all the previous "leaders" that have led us into this shame.

during my lunch break I called Southwestern Energy at 281-618-4700 and tell them stop excavating Native Canadian land and poluting the water, and called Royal Mounted Canadian Police at 506-523-4611 and told them stop using excessive force against the native canadians expecially the women and children who are just trying to protect their land.

the person at Royal Mounted Canadian Police said they are open on Saturday also.
