Anniversary of Newtown school massacre approaches; chilling new details emerge

Source: Hartford Courant

New details have emerged about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that took the lives of 20 children and six adults last December. The Hartford Courant paints a chilling picture in describing the state of accused killer Adam Lanza's bedroom following the massacre.

Investigators who entered Adam Lanza's home after he shot and killed 20 first-graders and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14 found his bed neatly made. An armoire held five matching tan-colored shirts with five pairs of khaki pants. Black garbage bags sealed with duct tape covered the bedroom windows.

The paper, which obtained the information via law enforcement sources, reports that a nearly empty cereal bowl was found near damaged computer parts that had apparently been smashed with a barbell.

During the shooting, a school secretary and nurse remained hidden in a closet in the office of the school principal, Dawn Hochsprung, unaware that police were using the office as a command center, the Courant reported. The paper also explained that the FBI is continuing to use "sophisticated sound technology" to analyze Lanza's movements that morning.

Sources said the secretary in the main office did not hang up the phone after calling 911 and federal authorities are trying to use the sounds recorded through that open landline to help chart Lanza's movements in hopes of better understanding his actions.

Most "chilling new detail" is that we as a society will evidently do nothing about this tragedy. . . Journeyman Oct 2013 #7

from gun nuts - Benghazi is more important than the death of these children and teachers.

"man-on-the-street" segments that Leno does would be revealing if the question was: Where IS Benghazi.

While a clear definition of "common basement dwelling gun nut" would help, it is quite clear that if it were common, and if there are a number of "basement dwelling gun nuts", then this type of massacre would be more common.

There certainly seems to be an abundance of nuts, but I'm thinking it's not the gun that makes them nuts. It just gives them a means to execute their nutness and gain a whole lot of attention. It's a lot more complex than just writing it off as "common basement dwelling gun nut".

One can step over or walk around shit on the ground. To avoid "Gun Nuts", we first need to identify them and a clear definition of what a "Gun Nut" exactly is would be a good start. As for instances of massacres, one is too many. Fortunately, they are not common.

He does not hunt or kill any animals because he knows that I hate hunting. All he does is target shoot. And because he lives in the boonies, the guns are also for personal protection for him and his family. Since I live alone and my protective Rottweiler died, I asked him for one of the guns and he said no way because he wouldn't trust me with a gun as I might shoot myself in the foot.

That description helps define what a "Gun Nut" isn't. Hopefully, we will eventually get a description of what is considered a "Gun Nut". I keep seeing the Gun Nut title volleyed and hope to get a clear and concise definition.

The gun makes them gun nuts.

But how come we don't see machete nuts and samurai sword nuts and murderous arson nuts and train derailment nuts? There are lots of ways to engage in mass murder if you are so inclined, but it seems that the weapon of choice is almost universally the gun.

they were not his guns, they were his mom's.
she failed to secure them properly.
she also tried to get him institutionalized
but was unable to do so.

The approach from this article - is the problem rests with the individual - focus on the individuals and their problems rather than the availability of guns in our society and how this society chooses to solve its problems by resorting to violence.
