Election 2013: Virginia Governor

Source: Rasmussen

Democrat Terry McAuliffe has jumped to a 17-point lead over Republican Ken Cuccinelli in the Virginia gubernatorial race following the federal government shutdown that hit Northern Virginia hard and Hillary Clinton’s weekend visit to the state.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Virginia Voters finds McAuliffe with 50% support to Cuccinelli’s 33%. Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis is a distant third with eight percent (8%) of the vote. Three percent (3%) like some other candidate, while five percent (5%) remain undecided.

4. WHY did the VA GOP go with a convention where they were likely to get a nominee like Cooch?

11. Why did the VA GOTP go to a convention, not a primary??

The VA GOTP changed to a convention from a primary because of the Tea Party takeover.

For the past few years, county Republican parties throughout Virginia have been under siege by the Tea Partiers. In county after county, the Tea Partiers took over the county Republican parties. In my county, the Republicans finally threw up their hands and walked away because every meeting was a wrestling match with Tealiban objecting to every move, demanding votes on the silliest stuff, and generally not letting anything take place unless they agreed.

Eventually, the Tealiban controlled enough counties to control the state apparatus.

Everyone know if a primary was held, the current Lt Gov Bill Bolling . . . a long-time moderate Republican . . . would trounce Cuccinelli. So, the Tealiban forced the state GOTP to hold a convention . . . and the Tealiban pretty much picked the delegates.

Not only did they nominate Kookynelly, but they also nominated E. W. Jackson for lt gov and Mark Obenshain for AG.

A seat that (hopefully) the GOP will lose when they could have had a decent shot at winning except for Tea Party antics resulting in wingnut candidate.

You still need to GOTV as BIG as you possibly can. It's all about:

TURNOUT, TURNOUT, TURNOUT!!!!

Especially with women voters which is what this douchbag POS is trying to kill off.

Please Virginia. Vote to remove the cancer that could damage your state.

Dems SUCK at voting. Now this isn't a special election so shouldn't be a big drop off, but we don't just need to win elections anymore, we must send messages. If we don't run up the score in every single election, it's all over for any semblance of Democracy. Just winning is no longer enough.

Just wait until FL and MI allocate Electors by districts. They are rigging the system.

That's an awful lot for a splinter party. You don't suppose it's a protest vote, do you?
