Report: Rand Paul To Place Hold On Yellen Nomination

Source: TPM

CATHERINE THOMPSON – OCTOBER 25, 2013, 11:09 AM EDT

A source close to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said the senator may put a hold on Janet Yellen's nomination to chair the Federal Reserve, CNBC reported Friday.

Paul wants his Fed transparency bill, which would mandate a complete audit of the Federal Reserve, to come to a vote and has informed Senate leadership of his intentions to formally put the hold in place next week, the source told CNBC.

A request for comment was not immediately returned by Paul's office.

of the House and Senate to vote for it. He might succeed.

That is a clever move because it would have grassroots support around the country.

The Fed remains a mystery to many people.

I also believe there is a majority who want to audit the fed.

I still can't get enough of Bernie Sanders grilling Ben Bernanke. Ron Paul was more show. Sanders was clearly ticked at Bernanke.

So they understand the rules pretty good. Putting holds on nominations to get concessions has been used for decades. I don't like holds on nominations. A president deserves up or down votes on nominees. But I don't like holds on bills either. Allow it to be voted up or down.

hold on the FCC chairman to benefit the superpacs and wealthy corporate donors. He's afraid the new FCC Chairman will try to implement the DISCLOSE Act via regulation. Something that would benefit 99.5% of America.
If you want an audit of the Fed make it a campaign issue. What has he done to promote the bill he introduced? What has he done to gather support for a FED audit? All of the media time he's had and he hasn't made this issue one of his top subjects until it's time to confirm a nomination? I'm tired of the minority rule that is going on in this country. They have attempted to cripple the Obama administration by refusing him appointments.
Investors around the world and future business owners and stock purchasers want to see a government that can function. They want to know that the financial markets won't be taken hostage by politicians anymore. Even if this is a campaign stunt by Rand Paul (and most of what he does is) he is damaging the overall U.S. financial market stability.
Rand Paul hates the Fed and wants it abolished, but this has nothing to do with the Fed and everything to do with not allowing Obama a functioning administration.
If he doesn't put a hold on the confirmation, and I don't think he will because his corporate donors will call him and tell him to shut the f up, I hope everyone is angry about his playing with the financial mechanisms in this country for political press and donations. Call him out if, like me, you think it's b.s.

and the media focused on glitches, we could loose the Senate. If that happens, using the nuclear option now would be bad.

Of coarse the Republicans would charge forward, if the got the Senate.

With out the electorate pushing them out completely, we might be on a double edged sword with rule changes.

Is the largest problem this country faces, even higher than jobs or the economy. So how does Rand Paul respond to that news. Well, he takes a political hostage further increasing the dysfunction in Congress. I guess that is all we can expect from these extreme ideologues from the class of 2010.

The thing here though is that Yellen is already Vice Chairman of the Fed so when Bernanke steps down she would be in charge whether she has the title or not so Paul would have little leverage and only expose himself as the jerk that he is, perhaps forcing Obama to recess appoint her to the job.

donations. it's getting dangerous. Between the FCC Chairman that Ted Cruz blocked, over campaign donation disclosure no less, and this we're in dangerous territory. Every administration needs a cabinet.

We always have to keep in mind the goal of the tea party Republicans is to destroy the government. Pretending like they are a conservative branch of the normal gop is a mistake now. It's clear they're just f'ing with the government for their end goals.

They care nothing about doing what's best for their constituents. All they do is grandstand to burnish their Fox News gigs and raise money from idiots.
