Congressman Fred Upton: Problems with Obamacare go beyond website glitches
Source: Kalamazoo Gazette/MLive.com
KALAMAZOO, MI -- Congressman Fred Upton said in Saturday's Weekly Republican Address that concerns Republicans have about President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, go beyond healthcare.gov website glitches.
Upton, R-St. Joseph, cited overall trouble with the law's roll out. He said the website, which has caused problems for people trying to sign up for health care, "is not ready for primetime."
"The broken healthcare.gov website has captured the nations attention, but this is more than a website problem. We are also concerned about what happens next," Upton said. "Will enrollment glitches become provider payment glitches?
"Will patients show up at their doctors office or hospital only to be told they aren't in the system?"

I heard this quote from Rep. Upton twice on NPR today, but this quote wasn't in this article: "At a time when we can do everything from ordering a pizza, flowers, or airline tickets, or banking and paying bills, they expect the same reliable service from healthcare.gov and its still not ready for primetime."
And yes, Kate Upton is Fred Upton's niece. Fred Upton's district includes Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan a.k.a. Michiana.

(3,811 posts)that allows roughly 10 million Americans to be "classified as uninsurable". Let's talk about that, Fred.
"We use the MEPS data to estimate the number of people with chronic health conditions that would be classified as uninsurable by an insurer...We used a list of about 69 health conditions to identify someone as uninsurable....Using the MEPS, we estimate that there are about 9.9 million uninsured people who have one or more of the pre-existing conditions that typically result in denial of coverage..." -- Cost of the Future Newly Insured under the Affordable Care Act, Society of Actuaries (SOA), March, 2013
(special thanks to Sen. Ted Cruz for citing the report above on his website)
Guess what? No one in the United States will be "classified as uninsurable" after January 1, 2014. No one who gets sick will be dropped by their insurance company after paying premiums for 20 years because the insurance company suddenly decides they'd rather not pay their medical bills. No one will be trapped in a job and prevented from starting a business because they didn't want to risk losing insurance coverage.
