Over 60 men reportedly shot to death in Syria

Source: cbsnews.com

There are reports Tuesday that more than 60 Syrian men were found shot to death in what appears to be a mass execution. CBS News correspondent Clarissa Ward is one of the few Western journalists who've gotten into Syria to document the brutality. She spoke from Beirut to "Evening News" anchor Scott Pelley. A transcript follows:

Pelley: Clarissa, you've been talking to your sources in Syria. What are you hearing about this apparent mass execution?

Ward: Well Scott, we've spoken to several activists on the ground in the city of Homs today. They told us that a large group of civilians was trying to flee the city and the relentless bombardment that is ongoing there. On Sunday night, apparently the group lost its way at a certain point and came upon a gang of pro-Assad gunmen known in Syria as the Shabiha.

The Shabiha then separated the women and the youngest children from the men. The men were then reportedly killed. Their bodies were found in a government hospital the next day in a neighboring village. And still no word, Scott, on the fate of the women and young children who were separated from them.
