President Obama:Time to end 'manufactured crisis'

Source: The Hill

President Obama called on Congress to end its cycle of manufactured crisis and self-inflicted wounds to fix the country's long-term debt problem.

(snip)
“It begins by ending what has done more than anything else to undermine our economy over the past few years – and that’s the constant cycle of manufactured crisis and self-inflicted wounds,” Obama said.

Obama expressed hope in addressing the country’s long-term debt problems, but warned that Congress does not have to do it by scaling back entitlement programs. He noted that the budget deficits have been falling at the fasted pace in the last 60 years.

“So that gives us room to fix our long-term debt problems without sticking it to young people, or undermining our bedrock retirement and health security programs, or ending basic research that helps the economy grow,” he said.

Over the past three and a half years, our businesses have created over seven and a half million new jobs. And this week, the Treasury confirmed that since I took office, we’ve cut our deficits by more than half.

But we have more work to do. We need to grow and create more good jobs faster. That’s my driving focus. And I’ll go anywhere and do anything to make it happen.

That has to be Washington’s driving focus as well. But I know that what you often hear out of Washington can sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher – a jumble of unfocused noise that’s out of touch with the things you care about.

So today, I want to cut through that noise and talk plainly about what we should do right now to keep growing this economy and creating new jobs.

9. And I think...

....it's time for 'the media' to stop letting 'the right' get away with this shit. I mean that The Daily Show, Colbert Report, Bill Maher, every MSNBC show, and indeed, every news-talk (cable or broadcast) operation going, that cares about a 'progressive' USA, to realize that we're in a war with these bastards and every time you dwell on criticizing Obama and Democrats, whether it's about Obamacare or Syria, or Bo The Dog, and fail to hammer Republicans, you're providing 'aid and comfort' to the enemy. Screw 'em. I mean you don't think FauxNews would even consider being critical of the Republican base for even a nano-second, do you?

11. The solution to long term debt problems

1. No more wars (especially ones based on lies).

2. Cut military and defense--it's too much. Even the military doesn't want some of the expensive equipment Congress deems necessary.

3. End subsidies to profitable companies. They are already making obscene net profits, why does the American taxpayer have to keep propping them up?

4. Implement a fair tax rate. No corporation should pay ZERO taxes, everyone pulls their fair share. Millionaires pay the same rate as middle income or higher, not lower. It makes no sense to have people struggling to pay bills pay a higher percentage of their income than someone who is on Easy Street.

5. Pay for performance--base Congressional salaries on the performance of the country. During times of low unemployment, higher job growth and wages, more disposable income for American families, fewer people on assistance, etc., Congress makes more money. During times of high unemployment, low job growth and wages, less disposable income, etc., Congress makes less. This is fair, as it is a direct reflection on their ability to do their jobs and keep the economy moving forward. It will also reduce filibusters, wasted time voting for crap they know won't pass, etc.

6. Set term limits. Give elected officials in both Houses a set amount of time to accomplish their goals, and they're gone. This will increase productivity and lessen the likelihood of corruption.

7. Raise minimum wage to a LIVING WAGE, where workers don't have to struggle to make ends meet or depend on the government to help them take care of their families. This will increase buying power and allow the economy to grow at a faster rate.

8. Tie Social Security into the REAL cost of living, not some faux mystical numerical computation that has little to do with what it really costs America's seniors to live. No chained CPI or any other crap--make it realistic. This will increase the buying power of America's seniors, and grow the economy.

There's a whole list of other things, but I think this would be a big step in the right direction. I'm tired of Congress playing games with people's lives, because that's exactly what they are doing. Congress represents the PEOPLE, not the CORPORATIONS. It's time they started doing their jobs.

13. Simple solution: Exercise your power.

Nov 2013
Article Two: Section 3: Presidential responsibilities - Clause 3: Calling Congress into extraordinary session; adjourning Congress

If they won't do it, keep them after school. They adjourn, call them back. They adjourn, call them back. They adjourn, call them back. They adjourn, call them back. As long as it takes. No Mo' Bi-Partisanny!!! Them daze iz gone!!!

Failing that, use the now-famous ''Signing Statements'' to declare any portion of legislation they do pass (pork barrel, tax breaks for the rich, etc.) as unconstitutional and state that because of this, you will not enforce it.

In addition to the side benefit of likely killing off a couple of the worse ones in Congress via apoplexy due to the sheer shock they'd suffer from your heretofore unused audacity -- I assure you they'll come crying to you in the end when all those corporate tax breaks and those billionaire bum friend's of theirs goodies get held up because they pissed you off. You know: The New ''Angry Black President'' Obama. The one we've all been looking for and hoping was still alive inside you.

- Grab those short and curlies Mr. President and pull HARD. Remember, they have summer homes and yacht payments to make. They'll see things you way.....

While the president can call a special session, he can't dictate the agenda. First topic for debate in the house - impeachment of the president.

For the next year all we will be hearing from the MSM is how Obama is "abusing his authority" during the impeachment hearings.

is by getting out there and going into full campaign mode next fall. You can't work with these domestic terrorists, you have to kill them, by defeating them at the polls.

19. "the Deficit" is a manufactured crisis that you, sir, have bought into.

Econ 101 tells you what needs to be done to 'grow the economy' and 'create new jobs' ... and it doesn't involve giving more money to corporations, billionaires or the MIC or cutting social security & SNAP benefits. Main Street needs disposable income. Economies grow from the ground up.

You, sir, should know this. Stop acting like some version of the Ryan Plan is the correct solution.
