NYC grand jury indicts 11 bikers in motorcyclist-SUV highway brawl

November 08, 2013

NEW YORK A grand jury has indicted 11 bikers, including an undercover New York City police detective, on various charges related to a motorcyclist-SUV highway melee.

The indictment Friday says undercover detective Wojciech Braszczok was charged with gang assault, criminal mischief, riot and other counts.

Prosecutors have said Braszczok participated in the Sept. 29 attack by shattering the SUV's back window. He was off duty at the time. Attorney John Arlia didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.

Police say that after the SUV driver bumped a bike that had slowed in front of the vehicle, motorcyclists converged on the vehicle. Police say the driver, while trying to get away, ran over a biker then motorcyclists caught up with the driver and beat him. The driver hasn't been charged.

The SUV driver was clearly the victim. It's all shown in the video.

The biker intentionally bumped (allegedly) the SUV by breaking in front of the SUV. The biker didn't go down.

At that time the SUV had already slowed way down to what had to have been way under the legal speed limit to avoid any contact. They captured the SUV in the middle of a busy freeway in the travel lanes - that's bizarre. The smashed belligerent rider was illegally blocking the SUV's escape from the hostile mob and deserved what he got.

He had every right to run over anyone who was part of that gang, in order to get his family and himself to safety.

biker. That biker didn't even lose his seat. He ran over another biker when, after he stopped, a group of the bikers began surrounding his SUV, pounding on his car, slashing at his tires and trying to open his doors.

The SUV driver had his wife and a two year old child in the car. He very understandably took off at that point and ran over a biker who had dismounted to join in the fray. He was justifiably afraid for his life and the lives of his family.

I can't think of anyone whose life's work could be more diametrically opposed to Rand Paul than Harry Chapin.

Outside of his musical career, Chapin was deeply committed to philanthropy, particularly fighting hunger in the United States and around the world. In 1975, he co-founded World Hunger Year (renamed to WhyHunger), along with friend and popular radio host Bill Ayres. After forming the organization, which is aimed at addressing the causes of hunger and poverty, Chapin frequently visited Washington, D.C. to lobby for hunger causes.

Why was a grand jury even needed? Is this being tried as a federal case?
