Report: 100,000 Signed Up For Obamacare As Website Was Revamped

Source: TPM

CATHERINE THOMPSON – DECEMBER 2, 2013, 7:49 AM EST

About 100,000 people signed up for health insurance through Obamacare's troubled online federal exchange last month even as government contractors raced to revamp the website, Bloomberg News reported.

An anonymous person familiar with the website's progress told Bloomberg that about 100,000 customers successfully selected a plan in November, roughly four times more than the amount of sign-ups in October. That number represents a steady increase in sign-ups, the person said, although the final enrollment numbers were still being calculated.

The White House announced Sunday that it met its goal of "having a system that will work smoothly for the vast majority of users." The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said that 50,000 users can now access the federal exchange simultaneously.

Were you previously uninsured? Or was your previous insurance cancelled?

Did you get a better deal than your previous insurance?

Thanks for sharing and glad you are insured.

Under Obamacare I have purchased a policy for $837/month allows unlimited doctor visits ( subject to deductible) has 90/10 coinsurance and out of pocket maximum for the family at $10,000 ( 100% is covered after that) - the deductible is 1350/2700 ( individual/family). $7 copay on generics and included dental coverage ( purchased as an add on)

My previous policy was at 925/month - but covered NOTHING except providing zero copay doctor visits ( upto 700/year/person) - after 700 limit is hit - you are on your own. It had long list of exclusions and no drug benefit.

So I think I am getting a policy upgrade and and having to pay a bit less. Works for me.

Well that is good. Only 6.8 million more to go. That is the goal by the end of the year. 7 million. I think they have 200,000 signed up now. They are far from done but it least things seem to be heading in the right direction.

Let's not forget, while everyone is focused on the federal exchange website, most folks -- especially "the media" -- are ignoring the state sites as well as ignoring activity by the navigators, the phone lines, and private insurance companies.

In my rural Virginia county, we have three small mom-and-pop insurance agencies. All three have BIG signs out front inviting people to come in and learn about "Obamacare" -- their words. Out of curiosity, I stopped at each one last week and asked if they were signing people up for Obamacare policies and what's the response -- after a very slow start, all three of them are signing people up at the rate of 3-4 a day. These are people who never had health insurance. And the people who own these agencies are local Republicans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope these mom and pop places aren't trying to rip people off (not saying they are, but it's possible). There are an endless number of scams people could sucked in to.

expanded their Medicaid program. In other words not the 39 rethug states who are sabotaging ACA. In Minnesota we had 90% signed up the last time I checked. The ACA site was designed to help those in the other states but they did not expect 39 states to refuse to comply.

Virginia is not one of the states with our own exchange, thanks to our Republican gov, lt gov, and att gen. So -- the mom-and-pop insurance agencies are working through the federal site, or, calling the Obamacare 800 number.

The guy who owns one of the agencies goes to same church I do, he said he's placing people where they get the best deal -- he's a general agent and places policies with many companies. He's the type of Republican I remember from back in the day. Besides, if he shoots straight with them on their health insurance, who will they turn to for car, homeowners, and the like??? The business side of Obamacare is something that I just shake my head over . . . why can't the GOTP realize that Obamacare will bring 45 MILLION NEW CUSTOMERS to insurance companies?!?!?!?

That was possibly the worst part of the system, other than the original batch of performance problems and errors.

#1, it produced incorrect, misleading , under-estimated quotes in almost every case because it didn't take into account the age of the customer

#2, It didn't provide any useful details. It was a complete waste of time

#3, because it was so f###ed up, it meant you had to go through the arduous application process just to see what options were available on the exchange.

But now they have done it right. The new website lets you pull up all the details in about 30 seconds.

same as before, same for last month. Can't create an account.

Also, I can't find a definition of minimum requirements to find out if I'm qualified for a subsidy. Spouse has really crappy insurance, her cost is $0, mine on her plan is 20% of her check. I guess the authors didn't figure the corporations would try to screw everyone?!
