I'm afraid it is starting to look like she may have played on the natural sympathies of good, decent and fair people for the unfairly victimized underdog. She duped people, and that's just not nice.

I just dont see how anyone can do such a thing; knowing how tough it is for people who really DO have it.

I knew of a person in Australia who was a member of a 3d chat site I belong to. I met this woman through a mutual friend online and got to knowing this Australian woman. I never had any reason to disbelieve her claims she had cancer. Then, due to several issues between her, a friend of mine, and an ex-friend of my son's, the 3 of us dumped this woman as an online friend. Over the next 3 years after that happened, I found out from various other people who knew her both online and/or in real life that she had faked her cancer to many people (upwards of 200 or more people online) and even went so far as to fake her death not once but twice. I heard about a year after that (sometime last year) that she did finally die and it wasn't from cancer; and, at the time of her death, she only had 2 friends left on that chat site (her daughter and her grandson).

As another said, there's a special place in hell for those who fake cancer.

This person seems to be mentally ill, and I hope she gets the help she needs.

She seems to be in need of being the focus of everyone's attention. There was the case of a woman who harmed the health of her child and claimed that her kid had cancer. Donations poured in, but other than what she herself had done to her child, there's was nothing wrong with her/him (I can't remember the gender).

There's something definitely wrong with this woman too.

She could just be a garden-variety sociopath. Her lies seem to be for financial gain rather than simply sympathy.

She was a drilling reservist that failed to drill. Thus not fulfilling her contractual obligation, it is an automatic Admin discharge with an OTH.

That said, anyone can have these kinds of mental health issues--they're tough to manage, they aren't exclusive to any particular type of person, and they cause people to do stupid things.

Social media outlets spread the confabulations of this unwell person, so they went viral, and people with tender hearts were motivated to provide support before checking the story. I think if anyone had looked into the background of this person, alarm bells would have gone off even if the $18 tip-giving-customer hadn't popped up with the receipt and the credit card bill.

It is a cautionary tale--sometimes, when stories seem all too neat, it's not a bad idea to step back and do a little checking.

Her stupidity--aside from her mendacity, which might be a clinical issue--was in using a check that was paid for by credit card. She should have printed off a spare cash receipt, and had the fictional bigot write a nasty note on THAT. Cash receipts are harder to trace, and who remembers to the penny what their last cash bill was? The only reason we tend to remember credit card bills is because we spend the time figuring the tip and then writing down the numbers...

She needs significant psychological treatment. Her behavior in the USMC is salient--the problem was that she did NOT show up, and that's what they are TELLING us. She lied about her deployments (she didn't get wounded in combat in Afghanistan--she's never been to Afghanistan, for example), she lied about damage to her home in Hurricane Sandy, she lied about having cancer, she lied about other illnesses, she lied about personal relationships .... she just .... lies.

She's left a huge swath of personal destruction, pain and chaos in her wake. People are pissed off at her and deservedly so. She is mentally ill--and not just a "little bit"--she has major problems that are going to take years to sort out.

The beat goes on and on with this person. She LIES. And as for judging her "harshly," if you bother to check the archives, I was one of the people who was giving her the benefit of the doubt, and saying that it might have been a third party who did this to her. Well, now her ex-girlfriend is coming out with handwriting samples of this waitress that match the writing on the receipt---so what's up with that?

Anyone who incites hate against the LGBT community to call attention to themselves and gain financially DESERVES to be "judged harshly." That community catches more than their share of undeserved shit without this idiot making things up. All she did was give some ammo to the bigots on the right with this stunt of hers. And if "harsh" judgment is that this person needs some serious, in-depth psychiatric intervention--and I wouldn't rule out a week or two in a facility to really work on her issues--then yeah, I am "harsh."
