Obama cites pope during income inequality speech
Source: USA Today
During his income inequality speech on Wednesday, President Obama invoked one of the hottest names in public life: Pope Francis.
"Across the developed world, inequality has increased," Obama said. "Some of you may have seen just last week, the pope himself spoke about this at eloquent length."
Obama than quoted Francis: "How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points?"
Don't be shocked to see a president-pope meeting in the coming months.

(532 posts)President Obama quoting the pope - implicating complete agreement between the these two extremely important figures on economic inequality - should really get all the right people riled up and pissed off.

(6,829 posts)His speech about economic inequality, combined with using diplomacy instead of our tumorous military-industrial-congressional-national security complex, will offend the PTB's.
The scumbags that really own and control everything.
Some CT'ers have even speculated recently that JFK was murdered by the aforementioned PTB's because he was planning to withdraw from Viet Nam in the middle of 1963.
How long will the PTB's allow Obama to practice all his peach love compassion and generosity? Such radical talk certainly threatens their long held interests?

(32,017 posts)Every powerful progressive has reason to fear for his or her life. I am not saying Barack Obama is a progressive, per se, no matter how much I want to believe that he's a progressive in his heart. The fact is that Obama is demonstrating great courage simply by talking about economic injustice, as you rightly note, and I do fear for his safety.
