Old White Male Republicans Dominated Sunday Shows in 2013

Source: Mediaite

The Rachel Maddow Show producer Steve Benen surveyed the five big Sunday morning political talk shows — NBC’s Meet the Press, CBS’ Face the Nation, ABC’s This Week, CNN’s State of the Union, and Fox News Sunday — and confirmed what many believe to be true: the most-frequent guest tend to be older, whiter and more conservative than the general population.

Close behind Rogers was perennial favorite Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) with 25 visits. The Democrat who placed highest on the list was Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), who tied for third with former Speaker Newt Gingrich. At #11, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was the only non-white guest with more than 10 appearances, and at #13, Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) was the only woman. The average age of the top six people on the list is 66.

Benen notably exempted any of MSNBC’s Sunday offerings from his survey, but a Media Matters analysis done earlier in the year determined that the liberal network has a far more diverse guest list than the rest of the Sunday field.

This has been going on forever, so why they even had to do a stupid survey to prove it is a mystery to me and total waste of time. I NEVER watch those shows anyway because I have no interest in looking at/listening to the same old, white Repuklican men, all speaking the same veiled bigoted language, they have on nearly every single week. The left/progressives need to step up and make a huge stink about this or it will never change.

McCain, McCain, McCain seems like he is on those stupid shows every week. The Newt was Speaker how long ago, but still still looked to as an intellectual heavyweight for some reason. What a sad state of affairs.

Peace

Contrary to Mitt Romney’s claims of vast left wing media conspiracy, a new study by FAIR has found that 70% of Sunday news show guests are Republicans.

A study of the network Sunday morning news shows by Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR) found an extreme Republican bias in ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox. According to FAIR, 70% of the interview guests were Republicans. Despite the fact that Democrats control both the White House and the Senate, 166 Republicans were interviewed on these programs. The programs interviewed just 70 Democrats. Eighty six percent of the Sunday morning guests were male, and 92% of guests were also white.

Managing the news According to Adolf Hitler "The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over." This idea is consistent with the principle

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda of classical conditioning as well as the idea of "Staying on Message."

Experts of Propaganda fool most of the people most of the time but not all the people all the time

Are you asking what the problem is with limiting Sun tv shows to this small group of people? Or did you miss the point of the article?

Especially when it over-represents the common demographic of those in power. The national discourse shouldn't be limited to the views of people who are overwhelmingly white, old and male. It seems like common sense to me. Why do you assume it doesn't matter?

When I was a kid, there was negroid, caucasoid, and mongoloid. A gazillion different races have sprouted since then. Nothing to do with biology. It's all politics.
