Clay Aiken of ‘American Idol’ weighs congressional run in North Carolina

Source: NY Daily News

The season two runner-up, now 35, may run for the 2nd Congressional District seat currently held by Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers, according to the Washington Blade.

Former “American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken may run for Congress in his native North Carolina.

The 35-year-old singer is in discussions with some Democratic insiders in Washington about making a bid for seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, sources told the Washington Blade.

Candidates in the May 6 primary must file their campaign paperwork by Feb. 28.

Aiken has reportedly met with reps from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, pollsters at the Hart Research Associates and operatives in Raleigh to gauge their response, unnamed sources told the Blade.

Ellmers won the 2nd by 50k in a Presidential year but with a very weak Democratic candidate that spent only $ 70k.

The district is now split evenly between Republicans and Democrats.

This is a seat that we could win.

money that came into the state to take it over, and the democratic party has DONE NOTHING to combat the take-over of this state. They never did support anybody against Renee Elmers, when we could have made a difference.

I'm SICK of the NC democratic party being so fucking anti-labor that they won't contribute but, maybe $300 to a good candidate that is pro labor.

Renee Elmers is the WORST of our new tea party nazis in this part of the state.

I think Clay Aiken might just have a good chance, if our other dems quit trying to trash obamacare to suck up to the koch heads.

He's a parent, a good communicator and I think he could do a lot to bring one of the other faces of North Carolina into the public eye.

and I don't care for people who hate cats. But that's just me, and living in Michigan I couldn't vote for him anyway, but it's important to replace Republicans with Democrats so I'll give him a pass.
