All the 31 Advertisers Who Are Still Sticking by Limbaugh: Netflix, Capital One, others.
Source: The Atlantic
We paid close attention to Limbaugh's ad breaks on Monday's broadcast on D.C.'s WMAL. Limbaugh's sponsor base reveals a lot about how those angry white men of the 1990s are aging -- they care a lot more about weight loss, teeth, and gold. So far seven advertisers have pledged to pull their ads: AOL, ProFlowers, Quicken Loans, Sleep Number beds, Sleep Train, Citrix Systems, LegalZoom. Here are all 31 advertisers we heard on Monday's show.

(4,490 posts)Might be a case of buying time on a local station without paying attention to what program is in that time slot, or just a flat out mistake. Seems like this list is compiled by one guy listening to the Rush Limbaugh show on his local station and taking notes on who was advertising, at least going by how it's written.

(57,936 posts)I explained that it isn't a matter of objecting to Limbaugh's point of view or his use of a slur against Sandra Fluke but rather that he blatantly lied about what she said in her testimony. He has not apologized for his lies and misrepresentations about what she said.
He said that Netflix wants our feedback on this. Don't hesitate to call.

I already have way too many DVDs that I own now anyway and have no need to rent them. Not only that, but NetFlix doesn't carry enough indy DVDs from my point of view. I want to find a way to build up ways to have more indy films being aired and their makers rewarded for doing so. Now you have to buy them off the net to help them out.

(13,920 posts)From the followup, with quotes from the companies:
http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2012/03/all-ads-pulled-rush-limbaughs-show/49552/
Goodwill: "Goodwill is a non-partisan nonprofit organization. Public service announcements are not paid advertisements and should not be considered endorsements of a particular political or ideological point of view. The Goodwill public service announcement that aired on WMAL or other stations affiliated with the Rush Limbaugh show aired without Goodwills knowledge or consent. No further Goodwill public service announcements will be aired without our permission," posted on its Facebook page March 5. As for the ad we heard Monday, Goodwill explains via email, "The PSA that aired was intended for a DC-area music station but a sister station that airs Rush Limbaugh ran the PSA without our knowledge or consent."
Vitacost: "Mr. Limbaugh's unsettling comments are not in line with our values, and we've decided to remove our advertising from the program," tweeted March 5.
And the one that seems to have grabbed everybody, Netflix, was apparently a non-specific add buy that was apparently not intended to air during Rush's show. (although, to be honest, does that make it better? I have my doubts that the stations playing Rush are full of sunshine and light during other times when he is not personally spewing racist, sexist, homophobic, rediculous BS)
I am torn on this whole thing. I mean, Aside from the PSA's, the other advertisers paid to be there. Even Netflix didnt mean to be on Rush in particular, from what I have heard the other shows played on the stations he is on don't tend to be any less vile. And this particular incident, while really ugly, is hardly the first, probably not even the worst thing he has said. Barack the magic negro, anyone? Why is it that it was ok for Vitacost to continue bankrolling him after that, but not this?

Won't miss Netflix after a while either.
I only found out that I had a target card a few years ago. Someone stole my identity, and opened an account some years back. Target reversed all charges, and I figured they canceled the account. Turned out they changed the number and left it open, unused. Found it on my credit report.
So now I have a target card that I've never used and don't plan to use. But if they want to keep a line open for me, whatever.

I added my actions speak louder than words and I understand pulling that much advertising doesn't happen overnight and gave them until Friday to pull it or I'm gone. I pointed out I am posting my actions to Facebook and encouarging my family and friends to do the same.

We appreciate you contacting us with your comments about our advertising during the broadcast of the Limbaugh show. Please feel free to contact us anytime with questions, suggestions, or comments. On behalf of our farm family owners, thanks for taking the time to let us know your opinion. We hope youll appreciate that 100% of our profits go to our farmers.

(3,425 posts)Tell them that whether they like it or not, they are endorsing the show when their ad is aired during the shows program. The money they pay to advertise on the show gives this man a platform to spew his hatred. The fact that much of his hatred is directed at women. who I am sure are the biggest purchasing group of their product.
The fact is that Limbaugh's latest tirade, along with many past ones, is directed at women. This will not make them happy customers.

I said they could reach Rush's listeners in other places AND that, no matter how broad an audience they seek to reach with their advertising, Limbaugh's recent comments are beyond the pale and there can be no justification whatsoever for giving their money to a man who suggested a birth control user be required to post sex videos on the internet.

(19,537 posts)I wonder about their strategy of primarily targeting their ads towards talk radio audiences, whether they are right or left of center, and the nature of the service they provide.
I wonder how much of a deal they provide certain governmental or other entities to in effect provide a mechanism to spy on our private data if they provide ways to look at data that we upload to their sites for "backup" purposes. Targeting these users would be providing incentive for those with more stronger political opinions to be more drawn to their service, and be the kind of individuals that these entities might be wanting more to "watch".
I remember seeing a third party news article that discussed how government arbitrarily seized some people's laptops at airports who were leaving from or coming to this country in international travel situations without much reason behind it, other than "they could", much like the "no fly" list is kept secret and how people wind up on it kept secret. I remembered that in that situation they had the CEO of Carbonite comment on this topic then, which seemed rather odd, and made me that much more suspicious.
Now I have no concrete reason to suspect they are doing spying, but with the way they target their advertising, I think one needs to ask oneself these questions, and whether you really want to trust the privacy of your data on their servers.

She did tell me that they are receiving many calls and that she will note my displeasure on the account. She told me that she was asked to keep count of the number of customer calls on the Limbaugh issue. She said that the Corporate heads are definitely keeping count, but they have not made any decisions. No announcement means that they are waiting and watching. But they are well aware that customers are upset and are either canceling or threatening to cancel.
I warned that they will continue to lose customers until they pull their advertising.

(10,303 posts)AFAIK most stations that air Mr. Limbaugh's programming pay Clear Channel for the rights... but the program is set up so that local stations can insert their own advertising into the program.
If the local advertisers are pulling their cash out of their local station and the local station can't justify airing Mr. Limbaugh's programming offerings then he may well get replaced by something the station owners think can make money.

(5,668 posts)ie they don't treat people real good. and vets even worse. so in the set of things Deere is actually 100 times worse than Rush so even if they pulled it. like I'd give a shit. Netflix. eh sorry. won't go there. not particularly economical for me to cancel right now. they know my feelings already. dropped their BD and streaming in response the streaming uptick. don't need VHS quality streaming that barely works. I also find a distaste in this anti free speech backlash. bit overkill. It'll bite us one day. ie Rush has to stand up for his comments. and the price it comes with it. But I'm a free speech advocate. I won't actively participate in censorship. Of any kind. I might sign a petition to clear channel , but I'm not hurting other peoples jobs because of something Rush did. I'm not falling for his game. He'll win if you do these sorts of boycotts.
the only clear boycott I'll continue to do is Lowes. Because that was hate speech by a retailer. And it's my free speech not to buy from them. Doing it the way you guys are doing, I'd have to boycott every item in that store, no matter where they are sold.

Not long after that I was getting hammered by mails from entities like Sarah Palin and Sharon Angle for donations. How do I "know" that they did this? Well, the timing, and the fact that they and Quest both misspelled my first name in the same way. And these political spam artists said in effect that I was identified as a big time conservative donor, when in fact I'm quite the opposite and I was unemployed for much of the last few years I've been here.
I think perhaps that their ethics might be a bit more questionable than they are letting on here. I was wondering if it was Quest or Service Magic that "sold" me to this mailing list. I'm leaning towards Service Magic now.
