LINCOLN Teachers who obtain 24 hours of additional training could carry concealed handguns in schools under a bill introduced Tuesday in the Nebraska Legislature.
The bill would create a level II concealed carry permit that would require the holder to undergo training in addition to the roughly eight hours for a standard permit. The additional training would include best practices for active shooter situations, weapons retention methods and techniques related to barricading and evasion.
Legislative Bill 879, introduced by Sen. Mark Christensen of Imperial, would apply to public and private schools along with colleges and universities. The governing bodies of each school would have to grant permission for a teacher or staff member to carry a concealed gun.
Christensen has said he thinks the bill addresses a need for schools in rural settings where emergency response times take much longer than in large cities. Current law allows only on-duty law enforcement officers to carry handguns in schools.

(34,589 posts)I remember back when I was in junior high in New York City, a student grabbed a gun from some sort of cop or guard and great fun ensued. Nobody hurt. That time.

(14,337 posts)including one 11 year old who tried to stab his Grandma with her kitchen knife, put a gun in a class like that? The classroom TA left her PEN out one time and he tried to stab her with it. If she forgot to lock up her gun? She, and others, would be DEAD.

(25,592 posts)What is this, Iraq? Our problem is with our society and the escalating violence here.
Military trained cops who still think they are in a war zone. Ex military, with mental and physical wounds, abandon on the streets of our cities. High unemployment, with millionaire political leaders working to make sure that no job, means no help. CIA funding drug cartels and flooding our streets with drugs, so they can have pocket money to over throw more governments.
Yeah, who is going to notice a little more wrong, with teaching our kids that a gun is the answer to settle any disagreement?
"That's power baby!1!!"

(6,317 posts)good, responsible people who carry guns legally believe that they can then shoot people with the gun. That the right to carry is a right to shoot.
