Extremely low voter turnout reported
SHEFFIELD TWP. Voter turnout in Lorain County for Tuesdays primary election was far lower than it was four years ago, the last time there was a presidential nominating contest on the ballot.
County Board of Elections Director Paul Adams said 54,795 voters cast a ballot Tuesday. They accounted 26.6 percent of the countys 206,202 registered voters.
In 2008, 89,381 voters went to the polls for the primary election. That was a turnout of 47.4 percent, Adams said.
On Monday, Adams had predicted a turnout of 40 percent.
He said the small number of issues on the ballot, coupled with an apparent lack of interest in the contested races that were on the ballot, probably led to the lower turnout.

(42,239 posts)Could that reflect that Ohio'ns don't give a shit about about who runs for that party because they're more likely to vote for Obama anyway ?

(5,937 posts)has already made up their mind is what these reports are saying, this can be really great, or really bad. My gut tells me it may be the latter. The pulse around me, and I work in social services is that a lot of people are frustrated and are looking to take it out on someone. The clients I serve lean democratic.

(8,556 posts)In 2008, you had two contested primaries. Now you have only one. There wasn't much reason for Democrats to come out and vote yesterday. And this is Lorain county, right next to Cleveland, so it's pretty solidly Democratic.

(3,622 posts)It is not about the Democrats this year in Ohio but it has everything to do with the republicans. Here in SW Ohio the turnout was in the low 20% range and this area is 2 to 1 republican (where I live it is 4 to 1). This is an important election for the republicans. They hate Obama in this part of the state. I was a polling judge yesterday in a heavy leaning republican district and there was a total lack of enthusiasm for the election. The presiding judge in the precinct I worked flat out said that Obama will win Ohio. You don't really hear that kind of talk in this part of the state.
One question: Why is there such a disconnect with NE Ohio Democrats with the rest of the state? I don't get it!
