Poll: Christie's Presidential Prospects Down Amid Bridge Scandal

Source: Talking Points Memo

The scandal surrounding lane closures on the George Washington Bridge has taken a toll on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's (R) presidential prospects, particularly among independents, according to a new poll.

A Quinnipiac survey released Tuesday found that support for Christie has dipped since December. Today he trails former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton 46 percent to 38 percent. The New Jersey governor led her 42 percent to 41 percent in December, results that were nearly identical to Quinnipiac's November survey.

The biggest shift in opinion on a potential Christie presidential run came from independent voters. The poll found independent voters favoring Clinton by a slim margin, 41 percent to 40 percent, while last month the survey found that bloc went for Christie 47 percent to 32 percent.

New Jersey legislature and federal prosecutors have launched investigations over the past month into the September lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, which apparently were ordered by Christie aides and appointees as an act of political retribution. Seventy-three percent have read or heard something about so-called "Bridgegate," the poll found, and 34 percent said the scandal makes them less likely to vote for Christie.

The poll was conducted between the 15th and 19th, so most of those polled wouldn't have heard of Mayor Dawn Zimmer's charges against the Christie administration.

This will change as the stories keep coming. No one has opposed him out of fear. It is becoming obvious why Dawn Zimmer
didn't dare say anything. Now others are coming out of the woodwork to tell their tales.

Are republicans who call themselves Independents.

Independents are really

1:Republicans who call themselves
2 emocrats who call themselves
3:True indenys who lean dem
4:True Indenys who lean rep

Christie Is done for 2016.His best case is to finish his term and leave office In 2018.

The MSM has been pushing christie due to them trying to sell he's moderate and not like other repubs like they did with W.

May belief If republicans will nominate Jeb If establishment wins,Cruz If tea party wins or Huckabee or Santurum If religous right wins

In fact, this story has so many twists and turns it will likely drag on at least until early 2015 and maybe much longer with all of the investigations, subpoenas, leaks, Grand Jury investigations, indictments, plea bargains, trials, etc. And it is already too close to Christie for him to remain unscathed. Someone in his inner circle is going to at least implicate him indirectly. It is going to happen.
