One person was killed in a shooting on the Purdue University campus Tuesday afternoon. Police have one person in custody. The person who died was a man. No other information was provided about the victim. Police are trying to identify him now, officials said at a 2:30 pm news conference. Police say the suspect was taken into custody outside the Electrical Engineering building where the shooting occurred. Police believe the suspect went into the classroom, shot the victim and then left the building.
About 20 to 25 police officers arrived on the scene of the shooting "within minutes," according to law enforcement.
As of 1:30 pm, all buildings were clear on the Purdue University campus except the Electrical Engineering Building where the shooting took place. That building continues to be processed by police and anyone still inside that building is advised to remain in place.
Purdue University says there's no ongoing threat on campus and people are advised that it's safe to resume their normal routine.

(111,261 posts)There's no word on the age and sex of the shooter, only that one suspect is in custody.
The whole thing is just plain depressing. When are gun toting fools going to realize that no restrictions at all on the damned things is ridiculously dangerous? Will they have to be hit by a stray shot before it happens?
Lax gun laws aren't working. We need to try something else.

about the threshold for national news - which is probably any shooting murder.
