Priorities-USA plus? Democratic super PAC's unite to form a super super PAC

The three main super PACs aiming to elect Democrats in 2012 are banding together.

A new filing on the FEC site establishes what might be called a super super PAC, uniting the independent expenditure committee supporting President Obama, Priorities USA Action, and with two others dedicated to electing Democrats in the House and Senate, Majority PAC and House Majority PAC, respectively.

It's called, simply, Unity 2012.

Democrats are reportedly struggling to match Republicans in the super PAC game, which Obama joined late. As of the end of 2011, Priorities USA and the (Senate) Majority PAC each had just $1.3 million on hand, and the House Majority PAC had $1.1 million, for a combined total of $3.7 million.

Ugly as Citizens United was, we can't unilaterally disarm in order to hold up a political principle.

Because he is the incumbent president, and with that comes a tremendous ability to raise money.

The problem will be in the future when you have an incumbent Republican president and a hapless Democratic challenger who will be drowned out by Citizens United ads.
