Poll: Crist Leads Scott in Fla. Governor's Race
Source: Real Clear Politics
Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist -- who switched parties and endorsed Barack Obama for re-election in 2012 -- leads current Republican Gov. Rick Scott by eight percentage points in the Sunshine State's upcoming gubernatorial race, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University.
Scott has the support of 38 percent of voters, lagging behind Crists 46 percent. While Scott has improved his standing from March, when he trailed by some 16 points, he has lost some ground since a November poll showed him just seven points behind his predecessor in the governors mansion. (Crist chose not to seek re-election in 2010, instead launching an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate seat won by Marco Rubio.)
Scott has trouble with two key demographics: women and independent voters, who prefer his opponent by 50-34 and 48-32, respectively. Men are divided almost evenly, with 43 percent supporting Crist and 42 backing Scott. Democrats and Republicans both strongly back their nominee, though Crist, a former Republican, is able to peel off 12 percent of the GOP vote.
Scott leads among white voters, 46 percent to 39 percent. But Crist maintains a comfortable 66-25 margin with African-American and Hispanic voters.

Yes, like many sources, when you copy one line, or one paragraph, the link comes along. This is why you have to edit.

(4,742 posts)or the rednecks in Polk County. In Florida you have some odd demographics.
1. You have the retired, white, upper-middle class to upperclass living on the coast lines. They tend to vote very right.
2. You have the rednecks that take up a big part of the state. These are the lower class to middle class who hate Dems, blacks, Hispanics, Gays, etc. The Bible thumpers.
The good news is though there's at least some very heavy pockets of Dems.
1. You have the heavy Jewish population of South Florida that is very Dem.
2. The Hispanic population of Florida is also very Dem and is growing fast.
3. You have the retired or descendants of the northern larger cities like New York, Boston, Philly, DC, Chicago, etc. That also helps.

(4,742 posts)We also have the Trinity Broadcasting Network RV and Trailer Park located down in Hallandale (next to Ft. Lauderdale.) The good news is those people are so out there they probably forget when to vote.

(22,271 posts)This Californian knows virtually nothing about Florida (other than they threw a presidential election to the wrong guy in 2000), but, you say: " The Hispanic population of Florida is also very Dem and is growing fast." In times past, I seem to remember that Florida Hispanics (mostly Cuban) voted largely Republican because of the Bay of Pigs fiasco. And this is just for curiosity, was I misinformed or have the old-school Cubans pretty much died off and the Hispanic Democrats are largely 2nd and 3rd generation and more liberal? I'm thinking, too, in 2014, "Hispanics" might also include people from Mexico, Central and South America.
Need-to-know-moment. Thanks for indulging me.
