Source: Politico

By TAL KOPAN | 2/4/14 2:45 PM EST

Team Wendy just landed an all-star running back.

Former Dallas Cowboys running back and NFL MVP Emmitt Smith donated $10,000 to the committee backing Wendy Davis’s campaign for Texas governor last month.

According to campaign filings, the CEO of EJSmith Enterprises donated the money on Jan. 8 to Texas Victory Committee, a joint effort from Wendy Davis for Governor and Battleground Texas, a group that supports Democrats in the state.

In either case, I'm happy to see her in the game and it appears she's doing well. Who will be her opponents for governor's office race?

Davis has a perennial Democratic primary opponent. The Texas primary election is March 4, and early voting begins in two weeks.

Likely Republican opponent : Attorney General Greg Abbott

-- One of five Libertarians (likely 2010 nominee Kathie Glass)

-- One Green and four independents

I for one will be cheering her on to the finish line from my perch here in the SF Bay Area..

I find it sort of surprising that early voting is around the corner, yet there isn't an official opponent running a public campaign against her? That's just weird. We're talking about the Governor race for the State of Texas! I don't get it.

but she and Abbott are firing salvos at each other. Too much to summarize, so peruse the Texas forum to the extent of your interest...

Ok. I have a few friends in Texas.. Houston and Austen mainly. So, I'll just send them a word of support for Wendy.. I sure hope she wins, by golly.

As far as I can tell from here, she's a Woman who understands personally about the struggles of the working class and the disadvantaged.. She doesn't come from "Old Money", privileged class seeking how to garner even more fortunes for her family, especially through MIC & the War Industry like a certain Democratic Party U.S. Senator - from California is all about.

Thanks for the clarification.

That Michael Jordan(who refused to ever endorse an opponent of Jesse Helms in any of Helms' re-election campaigns)refused to display in all his years living in North Carolina.

If "Air" had endorsed Harvey Gantt(or ever had the stones to run himself)Helms would have been out of the Senate years earlier. But Michael Jordan refused to do what he knew was the right thing.

All because he wanted to sell sneakers to white racists.

to the University of Florida and completed his college degree. Great move there. He is apparently solvent and thriving whereas too many of his NFL contemporaries have gone broke.

And I say this as a NY Giants fan.

Not talking about his skills, which were very good. That was my impression of him as a person. Not surprised at all that he is doing well. Thanks for the comment.
