Saturday Night Live alum Chris Kattan was arrested early this morning on suspicion of DUI after allegedly plowing into a Department of Transportation truck on the 101 Freeway.

The 43-year-old actor crashed his 2011 Mercedes around 2 a.m. going westbound on the freeway in Encino, according to City News Service and CBS Los Angeles. CHP officials said a woman made a 911 call and reported Kattan's car was "weaving all over the roadway at slow speeds." Kattan entered a coned-off area where a maintenance crew was working on a guardrail and struck the DOT vehicle from behind. However, the vehicle was empty and nobody was injured, reported TMZ.

According to TMZ, the actor allegedly told authorities he was on prescription medication. He was arrested on the scene and released on $15,000 bail around 7:40 a.m., authorities told CBS Los Angeles.

Ordinarily, I don't bother with celebrity news, but we just had this happen:

Wrong-way driver was going more than 100 mph, witnesses say

The same thing happened in Argentina too, and on the east coast of the U.S.

This could have been much worse:

Kattan entered a coned-off area where a maintenance crew was working on a guardrail and struck the DOT vehicle from behind. However, the vehicle was empty and nobody was injured, reported TMZ.

And, with a hat tip to Breitbart*:

Interstate reopens after wrong-way wreck in Phoenix

* You'll get over it.

ETA, again, to add: 2 wrong-way crashes leave 11 people dead in Fla., Calif.

CBS/AP/February 10, 2014, 5:17 AM

TAMPA, Fla. -- A sport utility vehicle traveling the wrong way on a Florida interstate collided head-on with a sedan early Sunday, killing five people, including four University of South Florida fraternity brothers, authorities said.

The accident happened on Interstate 275 in Tampa around 2 a.m. Sunday. The SUV was going the wrong way and hit a Hyundai Sonata, which was carrying four members of the Sigma Beta Rho fraternity. The SUV driver was also killed.

Authorities identified the fraternity brothers as Jobin Joy Kuriakose, 21, Ankeet Harshad Patel, 22, Imtiyaz "Jim" Ilias, 20, and Dammie Yesudhas, 21. Florida Highway Patrol officials said they were struggling to identify the male SUV driver late Sunday because of extensive injuries from the fire.

This guy is in the 1% and can't have a driver to take him from bar to bar? It is sad that actors and actresses have to be so careless.

Chris Kattan is a one percenter?!? One percenters are billionaires and trillionaires, not comedic actors.

The latest numbers from the IRS—based on just released data from 2011 tax returns—show what it takes to be among the top 1% of income earners: adjusted gross income of $388,905 or more.

Drunk driving is not a 1% issue. Many people outside of the 1% routinely drive drunk and get into single, or multi-car wrecks. Someone outside of the 1% can call a cab, or have a friend go to bars with them and drive them home. The real issue is that it is sad so many people, for some reason, put their lives and the lives of others at risk by driving drunk.

Unfortunately it had to be a car crash before his name reappeared again.

Good to have you with us! So sad, these stories. So unnecessary. A guy like him could afford a limo. And maybe a little more horse sense. Thank God no one was hurt this time. But I have no patience with this kind of thing. If you're on prescription meds, you have NO BUSINESS drinking - and then driving!!!???!?!?

Glad you're here! One would certainly think so. I would assume he'd have plenty of cash to drink on. Shit. Drunk driver here took out several innocent people over the weekend, driving on the wrong side of the freeway. They died. She herself lived.

They meant US Route 101 instead of Arizona State Route 101 which is a freeway which connects from San Tan 202 and round northern parts of Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Glendale and heads south to the I-10 in Tolleson.

I have driven every mile of it though not all at once. I didn't appreciate how large and massive the entire Valley of the Sun is until I've driven the freeways. Larger than cities such as New York & LA metropolitan by land area that's expanding all the way to Buckeye and southern cities such as Maricopa & San Tan continue to develop and Anthem to the North is brand new.
