The Republican leading the investigation into the Benghazi terror attack said the failure didn't lie with Hillary Clinton and that her legacy was mostly intact for a 2016 presidential run.
The show of support for the former secretary of State by House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is among the surprising revelations in the new book HRC: State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton, by The Hill's Amie Parnes and Politico's Jonathan Allen.
Issa made the comments in a December 2012 interview, at a time when Republicans were still focusing their anger on inaccurate administration talking points they claimed were crafted to help President Obama win re-election.
When the call came in at three o'clock in the morning, the failure wasn't viewed, at least as of today, as Secretary Clinton's. It was really an Obama failure, Issa said. Her legacy is mostly intact for 2016, if she chooses.

After I woke up from my fainting spell, I ran to post this article. Issa doesn't blame Hillary for Benghazi? He better inform as much to his fellow RW kooks.
Of course he still had to find blame and chose Obama, but I thought that the official GOP talking point memo was that Hillary was responsible.

(7,044 posts)But decided he had to whine about something and be a general jerk, and so he picked Benghazi out of a hat and made up a bunch of stupid lying horseshit to fling hither and yon. The rest is history.

(30,253 posts)People think it's a tragedy, but no more so than previous attacks on our diplomatic posts. The whole Benghazi thing is about dinging Obama and trying to hinder Hillary's chances in 2016. Although, recently they have moved on......to the past. Welcome to the 90s and the revival of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. I guess the only strategy the GOP has to attack Hillary is talking about her husband's misdeeds. That's so, 1950s.
As a woman, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy......

(9,462 posts)altering the emails. If Benghazi is totally reviewed, it will become obvious that the Republican party completely choreographed the entire "scandal". They want to avoid the public knowing what they really did and so Issa is backtracking.

(30,253 posts)I'm just surprised to find out that Issa doesn't blame Hillary, considering the 24/7 reporting it on RW sites and FOX. He sure pushed the story along.
