Police in Washington state on Saturday arrested a 34-year-old man accused of stabbing a judge and shooting a sheriff's deputy in a courthouse struggle, one day after he fled the small town of Montesano.
Law enforcement officers in neighboring Thurston County took Steven Daniel Kravetz into custody Saturday afternoon at his mother's home in the state capital of Olympia, Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott said.
The gun taken from the deputy during Friday's courthouse attack and other evidence were recovered, he said.
Scott identified Kravetz earlier in the day as the lone assailant in Friday's attack that wounded Judge David Edwards and Deputy Polly Davin. Dozens of law enforcement officers had joined the manhunt for him.

A 34 year old. Wonder if he was political.

If they have the right one, I'm glad he is in jail.
The judge is involved in a lawsuit against (the state?), IIRC, for budget cuts that are making the courthouse environment less safe. This incident ought to be fairly persuasive, but it doesn't give the citizens any more to spend to increase tax income, and there is a lot of need out there.

(53,061 posts)Sorry but since I heard about this I have had that song in my head until now and only post it knowing that both the judge and the deputy are doing well.
My brother knows this judge and says that a few months ago the judge was complaining about a lack of security at the court house.
Now he will get a more serious hearing.
