US naval ship runs aground in Black Sea: Pentagon

Source: AFP

One of two US naval ships sent to the Black Sea as a security precaution for the Sochi Olympic games ran aground at a Turkish port, officials said Tuesday.

The frigate USS Taylor briefly ran ground last Wednesday as it was preparing to moor at Samsun, where it was due to refuel, Navy officials said.

"There were no reported injuries, and the incident is currently under investigation," the Navy said in a statement.

The ship was able to dock at the port and an initial inspection indicated the ship's propeller blades suffered some damage, but there was no damage to the hull, officials said.

Maybe it jumped out in front of the ship...

Bet that's what he tells the insurance adjuster.

Even if the charts were wrong. Even if the equipment malfunctioned. There is no salvation from that happenstance.

Read the comments they are so disgusting. Everyone of them seems to want to link back to this is all Obama's fault as if Obama were commanding the ship at the time it ran aground. Total idiots.

And they are clueless. I was involved in two collisions and one grounding. The collisions were under Reagan and the grounding under Bush 1. I blame both of them for the incidents. Reagan for ramping up the Navy and the grounding to Bush for starting to cut the Navy. This is pretty easy to shift the blame from the CO.

Don't get riled up -that's what those assholes want. Just ignore them. They will eventually quit when they get bored and Mommy calls them up for dinner.

The comments were so stupid and extreme I just had to feel like they were trying to bait people and so I didn't respond at all. I just left the page and went about my business and now I think I'm much better off.

Apparently they need one ...and maybe a current chart. Ray Marine has a nice all in one with free life time chart updates, 5" display touch screen for under $1000.
