Ukraine sends lone athlete to Paralympics opening ceremony procession as Crimea tensions continue

The Ukrainian Winter Paralympics team was represented by a lone flagbearer during the opening ceremony in an apparent protest against Russias recent intervention in Crimea.
The event in Sochi was opened by Russian president Vladimir Putin, who has come under criticism for his countrys military action in the Crimean peninsula.

The 23-strong team, which was represented by biathlete Mykhaylo Tkachenko during the ceremony, confirmed it could still pull out if the situation in Crimea escalated.
I declare should this happen we will leave the games, said Valeriy Sushkevich, president of the Ukrainian Paralympic Committee.
