Bachmann: Gay Community 'Bullied' Americans And 'Intimidated Politicians'

CAITLIN MACNEAL MARCH 10, 2014, 6:14 PM EDT
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) last week reiterated her stance that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) was wrong to veto the controversial anti-gay state bill.
"There's nothing about gays in there, but the gay community decided to make this their measure," she told conservative radio host Lars Larson during an interview at CPAC, as recorded by Right Wing Watch.
"And the thing that I think is getting a little tiresome is the gay community, they have so bullied the American people and they have so intimidated politicians that politicians fear them and so they think they get to dictate the agenda everywhere. Well, not with the Constitution you don't."
Bachmann then said that the gay community has pushed for laws and court rulings that violate religious freedom. "If you want take away my religious liberties, you can advocate for that but you do it through the constitutional process," she said. "You dont intimidate and no politician should give away my religious liberties or yours."

Early in her state Senate career Bachmann was caught spying on a pro-gay-rights rally by hiding behind bushes. This incident occurred after she was profiled in the Star Tribune and photographed vacuuming in heels (see LaFave's letter to the newspaper above). If there is one thing that's out of touch with voters in the 6th District, it's hiding in the bushes (unless to hunt) and vacuuming in heels.

(6,241 posts)People like you for decades (and longer) bullied gays to where they were ashamed of themselves. Parents that feel as you do disowned gay kids. People like you, with your very helpful "God hates fags" bullshit cause gay kids to kill themselves.
This isn't some terrible, secret gay agenda. This is people demanding to be treated like you and your ilk have been for generations.

(1,446 posts)She and her hard-right, idiot cohorts are only familiar with the scriptures found in the 'Modern Ultra-Conservative Redacted Edition' of the bible that leaves out all that liberal, mamby-pamby, touchy-feely 'love-thy-neighbor' crap, and emphasizes the 'mighty hand of god smiting thine enemies' shit. And face it, anyone who doesn't think EXACTLY like she and all other narrow-minded bigots think are their enemies. It's plain and simple.......much like the tiny little minds that adhere to this world-view.
So, hey, c'mon now................you know...........

(3,496 posts)but that doesn't mean she can't be reminded that Jesus was not a sword waver. The Christian religion was spread most effectively by peaceful means. Good deeds and forgiveness over blatant force, that's the true message for any person who wants to be a good Christian and it's a much harder path to follow than most people realize.

(1,446 posts)...I grew up in the church because of the influence of my grandmother on my father's side. I actually agree that it is very hard to lead the life of a christian as laid out in the bible. I WILL say, however, if more modern-day christians tried to be 'christ-like' in their daily lives, I truly feel we would not be seeing this phenomena known as the 'christian right'.
