SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) A U.S. Border Patrol agent was found dead on Thursday in his Texas home just north of the Mexico border by authorities alerted to allegations he had kidnapped and sexually assaulted three female undocumented immigrants, federal agents said.
Authorities did not release a cause of death, but a local newspaper said he may have committed suicide.
Two of the female victims escaped on Wednesday night and alerted authorities, who then found the third woman in the Mission, Texas, home of the dead agent, according to FBI Special Agent Michelle Lee in San Antonio and Customs and Border Protection officials.
An injured adult female provided information that she and two other females had been assaulted by a male suspect, a Customs and Border Protection statement said.

There are no laws on the border, and I'm betting dollars to yen that his mindset was something like "These idiots want to put ME in prison just for rape while my colleagues are out doing X, Y, and Z?"

(2,088 posts)men, he would haven't had to rape them. He could have just beaten them.
Won't you think of the poor, oppressed LEOs that take advantage of their position of power?

(876 posts)would appreciate your insinuation that she could possibly be held responsible for her peers actions. If you think this guy worked on the border as a lone wolf you are mistaken. Radio contact, team work and coordination are an essential part of the BP. Ask your friend to explain how her peer took people into custody and transported them to his home without anyone else in the BP having a clue what was going on. I'd love to hear a cogent scenario how that happened.

(271 posts)women "recruiters" for the narcos looking to smuggle people and they tell the women and girls to take birth control pills during the trip as there is a good chance they may be raped by those smuggling them...particularly the girls. Some wind up with a child. I know a woman from guatamala that crossed here into mexico down south and was held by a mexican army officer until she escaped, she wound up with a child.
I know this is not popular, but if the US really cared about the people they would seal the boarder. Our country will never do it. These people go through hell unimaginable by most in the US, especially women children and even more so those from countries south of us.
I feel very bad for the women this happened to, but it's widespread even more so by the narcos that control illegal immigration.
It kills me.

(160,545 posts)Federal official: Immigrants attacked in South Texas were in the process of surrendering
By Alicia A. Caldwell And Juan Carlos Llorca, The Associated Press March 14, 2014
MISSION, Texas - An immigrant woman, her daughter and another girl who said they were kidnapped and assaulted by a border patrol agent were in the process of surrendering to the agent when their ordeal began, another Border Patrol agent and a federal law enforcement official said Friday.
Agent Esteban Manzanares, who officials say committed suicide early Thursday morning, is accused of driving the three away from the river after they surrendered and assaulting them. The other agent said Manzanares cut the wrists of the adult woman, assaulted one teenager in the group, and then fled the area with a second teenage girl.
The Honduran embassy in Washington, D.C., said the three are a mother, her underage daughter and another girl not related to them. The FBI has said the three were in the U.S. illegally.
The woman who had escaped the attack and walked further upriver tripped a camera at the border fence shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, the agent and law enforcement official said.
