A candidate running for Rep. Steve Daines' (R-MT) vacated seat was turned away by the local Republican Party for the candidate's racist views.
According to The Missoulian on Thursday, local Republicans turned away tea party candidate Drew Turiano from the Lincoln-Reagan Dinner on Saturday.
"We asked Mr. Turiano not to attend our event because we have no intention of allowing him a platform to spread hate and intolerance," Yellowstone County Republican Chairwoman Jennifer Owen said. "There is simply no place for racism in this party."
In the past Turiano has supported "Operation Wetback" a proposal to deport all immigrants living in the country illegally as well as their children even if they were born in the United States. While Turiano said that he was excluded from the event for his affiliation with the tea party (Owen denied that was the reason) he also acknowledged that it might have been for his support of Operation Wetback.

(10,857 posts)That seems to be the real dividing line between mainstream Republicans and Tea Partiers:
Are you smart enough to couch your racism in doubletalk?
Racists like William Rehnquist were able to advance to the very top by making sure that his preaching never resembled his actual practice.
Chumps like this guy, ignorant even of the ever-forgiving standards Republicans set for themselves when it comes to racism in speech and deed, just aren't tall enough to reach the bar.
But it looks like they're gonna take over, anyway, and I'm all for it. Stupid is a lot more predictable than evil.

(12,287 posts)why don't we? Like that woman down in Texas running as a Democrat but is a Burcher, why can't the Texas Democratic Party say no? Or that Al Green in was it North Carolina? Here in WI , Walker opening says they run fake candidates to force the Democratic Party to spend money. Why can't we just say no?
