Nuclear Disarmament Should Be Accelerated - Muhyiddin

The Malaysian Goverment will express its view that the nuclear disarmament process should be accelerated as nuclear weapons continue to pose a serious threat to mankind, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.

Muhyiddin said he was asked by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to represent Malaysia at the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) which was held today at The Hague to discuss and give Malaysia's view on nuclear issues.

Speaking to Malaysian reporters after meeting Malaysian students studying here, Muhyiddin said during the plenary sessions, he would among others discuss Malaysia's view over nuclear disarmament.

The deputy prime minister said he would also highlight that Malaysia together with Australia, New Zealand and the United States had co-hosted the first regional activity of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism in South East Asia.
