Nearly a dozen Hanford employees sick from unknown fumes

Source: KING 5 News

Hanford sources tell the KING 5 Investigators that at least 11 people have gotten sick in the last six days after breathing in toxic fumes while working near underground tanks holding hazardous nuclear waste. At this point, employees do not know the source or sources of the vapors.

<snip>

Sources who work in this area of Hanford tell KING it is unknown exactly what the employees ingested into their lungs, but that this is “extremely unusual” to have symptoms persist this long.

“The place is falling apart and they (WRPS) aren't doing anything to fix it,” said one employee.

<snip>

“It’s BS,” said one worker. “We’ve expressed our opinion about it. We’ve said you haven’t taken the time to put in monitors and they say ‘It’s in the works’. Yet they keep sending us out to work. They’re not putting safety first.”

anyway some worker might get a sunburn or their hair tousled about or get wet.

“The place is falling apart and they (WRPS) aren't doing anything to fix it,” said one employee.

employed as a Union carpenter, in N.O. after Katrina.
I was contacted by an agency (they set up in Cincinnati, Oh. and contacted our Union) about having possibly been exposed while building nuclear containment vessels near Cincinnati a few months prior.
They set up appointments for medical evaluations. They skipped town and never checked any of us. Our Union was unable to contact them...They were a govt. organization.
The person who contacted me said that heart attacks were a "side effect" of nuclear exposure.
It took me 6 years, 4 more M.I.'s and extreme poverty before SS agreed that I am disabled.
Never another word about possible nuclear exposure though, for any of us and our Union tried and tried.
