Israel takes Iran nuclear concern to partner China

Source: Lebanon Daily Star

BEIJING: Israel Friday took its concern about Iran’s nuclear program to one of Iran’s main partners, China, and hinted it could launch a pre-emptive attack on the Islamic Republic despite repeated calls by China to allow diplomacy to take its course.

China, which has close energy and trade ties with Iran, has urged a negotiated solution to the dispute over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and long opposed unilateral sanctions on Iran.

“For us, it’s crucial to explain our position to our Chinese partners,” Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told reporters on a visit to Beijing. “It’s crucial to clarify our position to China in the hope they understand our concerns, our problems,” he said, adding that Israel would “continue the dialogue” with China.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao warned Iran in January against any effort to acquire nuclear weapons but apart from that, China has shied away from speaking out strongly against Iran.

This is an example of the proliferation risks of nuclear power.
I hope Iran complies with the NPT before something bad happens.

1. I think this may be a smart move to avoid war. China may have some influence over Iran.

Personally, I believe that China was instrumental in keeping a lid on North Korea during Kim Jong Il's reign. Of course, they would help in these matters only for their own reasons. The Chinese are not our friends, and have no interest in helping us(or Israel) per se. They have their own, long-term plans for world domination, and do not need someone like North Korea or Iran stirring up trouble in their backyard. So, maybe we will all get lucky and China will use their influence to lower the tensions over there. We can hope.

the oil and gas supply agreement between Iran and China was renewed 3 weeks or so ago. China had already made it clear they were not going to allow US sanctions to interupt their supply needs.

4. China has no influence over Israel. How can they possibly have an impact on the war without that?

It's not like anything is going to get any BETTER for Iran, or Palestine, if they let Israel dominate the region with nuclear threats. Given their past behavior in the last fifty years, one has to expect them to follow through on a threat, probably an irrational one, sooner or later.

9. Arab Spring in Israel...

I guess everyone have noticed that in recent time Washington and Israel have difficulties in understanding each other. You see, US releases aid money for Palestine while Israel continues bombing it. I would say that Washington is really annoyed by Israel and American big shots start thinking of making an Arab spring in Israel, maybe even with the help of Palestinians. Such information came from Anonymous after they had hacked email of Daniel B. Shapiro, US Ambassador to Israel. According to correspondence between Shapiro and Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State says that it is necessary to transform Israel from a parliamentary republic into presidential one for it's much easier to control one man and force him dancing to Washington's tune and think over engaging Palestinian friends... What does it mean? Another war's coming?
Whatever, thanks to Anonymous who keep their promises and continue posting heavy stuff despite Washington's weak attempts to hide the truth from us.
