Two Senators Want To Declassify CIA Report To Expose Use Of ‘Inhumane And Brutal’ Torture

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Two members of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee came out on Wednesday in favor of declassifying parts of a report on the CIA’s use of “enhanced interrogation” methods, saying they had concluded some detainees “were subjected to techniques that constituted torture.”

The announcement by Maine Senators Susan Collins, a Republican, and Angus King, an Independent aligned with the Democrats, was an important boost for the declassification push a day before the panel is expected to vote on the issue.

The committee had been expected to recommend the declassification of the “Findings & Conclusions” and Executive Summary from the 6,000-page report. Bipartisan support could increase the likelihood that the material will eventually become available to the public.

“This inhumane and brutal treatment never should have occurred,” the senators said in a joint statement. “Further, the report raises serious concerns about the CIA’s management of this program.”

But to learn what it does, the elected representatives have to ask permission from the permanent deep state, and the identities of most of the latter's personnel are secret. Who rules?

they would simply stand up and read the damned report on the floor of the senate where they are immune from prosecution.

The haven't, so they are not serious.

do NOT want the report out there because then it raises all sorts of icky questions about war crimes. This is bad for the business of committing future war crimes, and of course, war in general..

Yes.

Would prosecuting those who were responsible for this program not only help our reputation internationally, achieve justice, but also set an example for the rest of the world to follow?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

So let's publish the report, prosecute those responsible for the torture and set an example of the exercise of the rule of law and the rejection of cruel and inhuman treatment of prisoners for the world to follow.

We need to discover what happened, who did it, and the hold them responsible. The Cheneys, Yoos, Rices, and wolfowitzes belong in jail not on the sunday talk shows.

It is unbelievable.

If you didn't know, Condi Rice is part of a committee that will determine which top ranked college football teams will participate in a four team playoff system starting this coming season. You know, because we know she has integrity.
