Alleged Hillary Clinton shoe thrower detained

Source: Associated Press

PHOENIX (AP) -- A federal magistrate on Tuesday ordered a Phoenix woman to remain jailed until she is returned to Las Vegas to face federal charges alleging she threw a shoe at Hillary Rodham Clinton during a speech.

Alison Michelle Ernst, 36, read documents, talked to her lawyer and sat on the edge of her seat as she waited for her initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven Logan in Phoenix.

Ernst, wearing a turquoise-colored hooded jacket and jeans, was arrested late Monday after federal prosecutors in Las Vegas filed charges Sunday accusing her of trespassing and violence against a person.

The federal charges increase the possible consequences for Ernst if she is convicted of throwing a shoe at the former secretary of state.

Her blog postings and lawsuits indicate someone who is quite unhinged. I don't wish for her to be jailed, I wish for her to get the treatment she needs. Just Google her name. Some really disturbing thoughts.

Serious question: is there any way other than by jailing her and having a hearing on this issue for anyone outside her family to get help for her? You may not know any more than I do about it, joshcryer, but it is an important part of this story. I really don't know if any authorities involved can decide she is mentally ill, have her evaluated and force her to accept help or if it is something her lawyer would have to raise in defense of this case.

Although it would be better if she gets psychiatric help. She has a history of disturbing actions.

The shoe incident may have been minor, but it's still worrisome. Ernst was not an attendee at this conference, and yet she managed to get within a few feet of Hillary. How about if the next disturbed person pulls out a gun instead of a shoe?

I don't advocate violence against any public figure, even the ones I don't support.

Cyriack, whose grandsire on the royal bench
Of British Themis, with no mean applause,
Pronounced, and in his volumes taught, our laws,
Which others at their bar so often wrench,
Today deep thoughts resolve with me to drench
In mirth that after no repenting draws;
Let Euclid rest, and Archimedes pause,
And what the Swede intend, and what the French.
To measure life learn thou betimes, and know
Toward solid good what leads the nearest way;
For other things mild Heaven a time ordains,
And disapproves that care, though wise in show,
That with superfluous burden loads the day,
And, when God sends a cheerful hour, refrains.

the she will receive treatment rather than punishment. If she is found to be of sound mind then she has potentially committed a crime and there is no reason to give her a break. It makes no sense to suggest that Hillary just "drop it," no for the shoe-thrower's sake or for her own.

She had an outburst during the court trial of the Colorado movie shooter in 2012. When arrested said she was obsessed with him, he was "in her head". She asked for a restraining order from the court to get him out.

LAS VEGAS (AP) ...

Alison Michelle Ernst, 36, was taken into custody late Monday in Phoenix and was scheduled to appear Tuesday before a federal magistrate judge there, said Natalie Collins, a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden.

Federal prosecutors in Las Vegas had obtained an arrest warrant after filing trespassing and violence against a person charges against Ernst on Sunday. The charges increase the possible consequences for Ernst if she is convicted.

She had already been arrested on a local misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge carrying a possible six-month sentence in county jail. She was released by police with a June 24 court date in Las Vegas. Charges weren’t immediately filed ...
